Reunion

She enveloped her wiry frame in an embrace

warm and kind as milk and honey,

A scent of jasmine, lemon, and a hint of sugary sweetness

wafted from her.

If she glanced down,

she would have known the sweet aroma was the bubble gum wrapper

held tightly in the girl’s hand.

How strange and familiar this was.

She was hugging her,

Arms leaden at her sides,

limbs locked and petrified,

A stranger held her.

Yet,

Kin.

The thread below her breast bone tethering her to life,

was tugging her towards her sister.

Her heart aglow,

Lifetime of conservative, shyness,

drew her back from running to join.

two sisters entwined,

Appearance so different,

Manner so opposite,

ice to fire, storm to stone.

One blood,

one loved as much as.

It sounds as though the sisters had long been separated. One was demonstrative, the other, reserved. But in the end, it sounds as though love won out.
