Ode to the Void

Ode to the Void

A Poem by Zoe Jay

The circus of the void

The deranged drama of defiance

The footrace for forever

Screaming our human rage at the dark

Masking our fear

In love, and anger, and celebration, and war

With light, and sound, and distraction,

We defend our territory

Our existence

Our pinprick of consciousness

Our little circle of noise and motion

This carnival of dancing fools

Playing to a silent crowd.

Sometimes you want to throw rocks

To drive the silence away

And sometimes you speak in respectful hush

For the silence swallows your sound

Eventually we will all come to our knees

Before the one God we all share

The unity of this manufactured chaos…

The Void.

I love this poem. I feel empowered by this. Reminds me of Carl Sagan's Pale Blue Dot.
