Ode to the Spirits

Ode to the Spirits

A Poem by Zoe Jay

The poetry of the dead

The eulogy of the living

Whispering below the conscious

More knowledge has died with them

Than will ever live in us

We hear their wisdom

Constant as breath

Our paths smoothed over

By the soft hands of death

Their words are wanderers

Walking lightly on the world

They pass as softy as ash settles

And we never hear them nor feel them

But our souls know them

God is subliminal

A sound in the heart

An eternal surrounding

No ending, no start

Zoe Jones,

I enjoyed this write to - it is unique and presented questions without questioning. Engaging the reader to reminisce upon their dead, as you pointed out left here with more knowledge than will ever live with us.

That, my friend, was my favorite line... genius.

I like how you describe their words as wanderers, walking lightly on the world - how this makes me wonder if that were so.

Subliminal messages from within us? Honestly, I believe most of us speak to God within our hearts, our minds, which makes that statement so believable.

Intriguing write you have here, keep up the good work!

I would like to see this poem in the Enlightenment contest, if you haven't submitted any poems yet. You can find that here: Poetic Infusion Society.

Keep writing,

If we read and learn from the old writers. The world would be a better place. Read the Mark Twain, Hemingway or 101 famous poems poetry book. Could find wisdom to save this world. I like the reason and feel of this poem. I believe if the leaders of this world knew and understand history. World wold be a better place. History was written in old books by men and woman who wanted this world to know. The error of mistakes of others. A powerful ending to a excellent poem.
