Ode to RainA Poem by Zoe JayA cityscape. A
long, straight road. Seems
endless. Identical. Evenly
spaced pools of light Silence. Empty. Rain
falls on nothing. Slowly. Steam
haloes around street lights, Cat
eyes glare under a bush. Distant
traffic. But
not here. Only
footsteps and rain. Even,
measured strides. Chuck...
chuck... chuck... chuck. Every
still, wet corner Looks
the same But
feels different. Every
turn A
major change of direction Life-altering But
it looks the same. Endless. Identical. Silently
stoical, Unyieldingly
unhelpful, Cubes
upon cubes, Each
an unmoving challenge As
if their backs are turned To
the rainy street Indifferent To
your passing. Chuck...
chuck... chuck... chuck. Moving
on Yet
still the streetlights glare And
leaves whisper in the rain And
the eyes of the cat Follow
where you passed. And
before you arrive, You
have to ask, What
is my destination? Everything
looks the same. © 2013 Zoe JayReviews
