Deadly Nightshade

Deadly Nightshade

A Poem by Zoe Jay

From ICE whence we came,

we learned where to find our WARM NEEDS,

in that cold, death-like limbo,

which our ancestors
DEFIED,

it was our VICE,

not our VIRTUE,

that enabled our survival…

our weak flesh craves warmth, and LUST,

and exotic fulfillments,

the varied
PLEASURES

and myriad
LEISURES

of temptation…

and thus:   SOCIETY

in order that we may more easily satisfy our
CRAVINGS…

SURVIVAL. IS. A. SIDE EFFECT. OF. SIN.

We have a need for instant gratification it drives our passions to create more so we can consume more. Interesting perspective that our survival is based or an effect of sin. On one hand we choose this survival and on the other we pretend it is the only way we know regardless of the scriptures. Peer into the looking glass your poem says to us and see our self as the beast we are lavishing in sin to fulfill our need. Your poem screams these needs out bold as we whisper them in the night and hide them in the dark while we pretend that it is in our nature to be good and pure.

Excellent write~

survival is a side effect of sin...there's a thought. I'll have to ponder

Love. It. And so very true - though probably not the conclusion that people would first come to. "Survival. Is. A. Side Effect. Of. Sin." This could be a generational anthem. Great work!

I read in a study a while ago that babies who were held and touched more thrived more than babies who her not. They used these findings to also prove that even as adults this same need to be touched by other humans is needed. That without it humans are prone to more deficits. When you look back in history at the complete malicious and evil things humans did to survive and live in comfort in some aspects you can see it as a vice not a virtue. Some stole, some made people slaves, some murdered and hung people... All to feel safe and warm. Whether that be in a physical level or a practical one.

survival of the species is the make up of generations since the beginning, a will to live by any means...I for one have different ideas about our ancient past, (but that's another story)... a want to be connected, accepted, and a means to belong, It is what makes us who we are...nice poem Zoe

Life, and sin seem to go hand in hand...it is in our nature, though it is up to us to decide what road to walk, many a time it seems like there is no way out but to sin, such as a lie, or to hide something from someone "secrets"....love your way of putting this piece together, creative and nicely done!
