Deadly Nightshade

Deadly Nightshade

A Poem by Zoe Jay

From ICE whence we came,

we learned where to find our WARM NEEDS,

in that cold, death-like limbo,

which our ancestors
DEFIED,

it was our VICE,

not our VIRTUE,

that enabled our survival…

our weak flesh craves warmth, and LUST,

and exotic fulfillments,

the varied
PLEASURES

and myriad
LEISURES

of temptation…

and thus:   SOCIETY

in order that we may more easily satisfy our
CRAVINGS…

SURVIVAL. IS. A. SIDE EFFECT. OF. SIN.

We have a need for instant gratification it drives our passions to create more so we can consume more. Interesting perspective that our survival is based or an effect of sin. On one hand we choose this survival and on the other we pretend it is the only way we know regardless of the scriptures. Peer into the looking glass your poem says to us and see our self as the beast we are lavishing in sin to fulfill our need. Your poem screams these needs out bold as we whisper them in the night and hide them in the dark while we pretend that it is in our nature to be good and pure.

Excellent write~

An intriguing concept... arguable but neat. THIS would be a great topic to discuss across a table with a diverse group. The shared perspectives could be worth the price of the admission of true opinions.

The last line sums up the entire essence of your poem..and stays on-mostly because of the simplicity with which it subtly conveys on of the most warped realities of the human society - "SURVIVAL. IS. A. SIDE EFFECT. OF. SIN." To say that its been beautifully written would be an understatement..but still..lovely !

ur poem is really nice write, do have a look to mine "QUEST OF LIFE"-
" this is about how one neglects his life ,pondering about this precious gift of nature unnecessarily ".

how raw! love it.
animals get away with it all the time but we humans are expected to be saints...meanwhile - its our animalistic natures that crave through tension and hunger - conquering and feasting towards something we worked for - or it may just be me that needs it to be difficult....to feel accomplished - thought provoking - enjoyable read :)

All the more reason why we should REJECT the (artificial) concept of sin.

It is in our very nature (which makes it a very natural thing) to seek comfort and affection and recognition. Why in hell would we want to make it out to be a bad thing?

Great write.

This is outstanding work. I really enjoyed reading your take on morality and virtues. I suspect that you are not to far off with your theory. Excellent work. I enjoyed the construction as well.
