Fragments Of Eve

Fragments Of Eve

A Poem by Zoe Richardson
"

Innocence in red, paying calls on rogues in white

"

Fragments Of Eve

She is a princess on the

Riverbank, dancing barefoot in

Her crown of flowers.

Willows bend and cottonwoods

Sigh at her command.

She is an innocent temptress

In pink lipstick and black tights

Dancing in the smoky haze

Of booze and Beatles.

She wears her attitude like

Her earrings, subtle and tasteful

And unmatched.

She is a contradictory saint

Flash and fire and forgiveness

Flowing from her eyes.

She transfigures her wounds

Into a crusade, balancing her

Purity with a wicked smile.

She is a gift, unopened and

Unclaimed, something precious

Made with unseen hands.

Alone with only words and sky

She sings what everyone can hear

In the hopes that one will understand.

Hi Zoe, your poetry always manages to touch the heart deeply and emotions come forth so easily. You have the skill of making poetry seem easy, although we know it isn't. You sing with such poetic grace you make the heart of the reader sing, emotions fly. Have a wonderful Wednesday. Hugs always....Mike.

You are welcome dear Zoe.
"princess, temptress, saint, a gift"

"Eve" is presented as a complex character, full of contradictions. She could be fun, but also dangerous. It seems that she hasn't decided who she wants to be, so she's trying on different attitudes, personalities, and roles. She's a bit like a new age hippie...or a teenager...or a middle aged woman in some sort of crisis, maybe even on the verge of a breakdown. The more I think about her, or try to visualize her, the more it seems she is far from being joyful, but rather she's desperate for some certainty about herself and her place in the world.
