![]() Simple ObservationsA Poem by Zoe Richardson![]() The person who completes you![]() Simple Observations You are faith and beautiful Like the tiny lichen growing On rocks or phosphor shining Green torches beneath the water You are waves and ancient tombstones You are a star buried deep Within the earth I can still see you shine Muted colors like A prism behind a cloud You are fire and earth You are my heart’s beckoning The distant cry of a bob-white Calling you home from The land of far away I watch for your answering signal by night You are fresh clipped zinnias Sitting in a blown glass vase A calliope of color and music Played against the fresh-painted walls When night falls you Are the shadows outside my window I hear you whispering don’t be afraid Before I open the shutters And let the whole of you in © 2021 Zoe RichardsonAuthor's Note
