A Pledge Of Silk

A Pledge Of Silk

A Poem by Zoe Richardson
"

What's left behind when you lose.

"

A Pledge Of Silk

I know how to quarrel

I know how to tease

The light that you follow

The lies you believe

The freshness of sorrow

The weight of the years

A sliver scaled minnow

Swimming up through the tears

Mistakes can be broken

And promise mislaid

A kiss for a token

A choice for a trade

Rain brings a solace

To wounds yet to heal

Peace is a mirror

And hope is a shield

Your home echoes empty

Your smile cold and dead

And all that you left me

Are the songs in my head
