A B*****d's Prayer

A B*****d's Prayer

A Poem by Zoe Richardson
"

When you are the red-headed stepchild in the home you created.

"

A B*****d’s Prayer

I miss your rights

I miss your wrongs

My days are short

My nights are long

To great a wind to

Shield my storm

Too harsh a night

Sent from your arms

A song to carry

A sword to sheath

A poor man ferries

My soul beneath

The stars stand out in colder eyes

My truth compared to all your lies

Your story told in dark guitars

A measured breath for prison bars

I gave my words to win your praise

One cannot know the heart betrays

A long and short forgotten place

The respite sought from dying days

I gave my all to sing your air

Not knowing that you did not care
