And The Money Owing

And The Money Owing

A Poem by Zoe Richardson
"

Every action has a consequence. There's a price for every act. Love costs, sometimes more than you are willing to give.

"

And The Money Owing

In the deep and crooked dark

We pray for light, we beg for spark

The consequence of spoken words

Lays waste to all my tears unheard

Shadows climbing up the roof

Rest easy on the edge of proof

The black of sin turns gold to red

You take a quiet girl to bed

My scissored hands and mangled heart

Tear all the truth I breathed apart

Someone singing songs I’ve known

In tattered notes and shredded tone

Come all together and kneel to pray

A savage twist of hope mislaid

The cunning night and rueful morn

The jewels of sorrow my cheeks adorn

Balanced on my upturned hands

A squeak of fire becomes a band

A song becomes a lesson played

The debt you earned remains unpaid
