Chapter 8: is half deleted...sorry!A Chapter by Amanda KnottsCaleb's first day...
Caleb awoke early the in the morning or so he though unsure of where he was. He rolled from his back to his side noticing the softness of the sheets. “silk?” He finally opened his eyes and stretched his hand going underneath a pillow. “I have never had a pillow….the only ones I know of are in Master’s room.” He thought to himself. Looking around startled him nothing made sense as his door opened everything flooded his mind like a dam being turned on. A servant came into the room and tried to throw back the heavy curtains Caleb jumped up and ran over the older man and helped him pull the curtains the rest of the way back the man’s looking grateful. “Thank you, young master.” The man said. “I’m Caleb you don’t have to call me master.” “Very well Sir Caleb.” The man tried again. “Just Caleb will do really, and you are?” Caleb asked “Howard Smith. I have been working with his majesty all his life and his father as well.” Howard finished proudly “It’s great to meet you Howard.” Caleb said the old man reminding him of Ma’s husband before he had died a few years ago. “His Majesty expressed his wishes that you to change clothes and come to breakfast, did you sleep well?” He chatted sweetly “I did thank you and yourself?” “You are a peculiar young man, Caleb.” The old man’s eyes sparkled. “Why do you say that? And you didn’t answer my question.” Caleb teased “Yes I slept well thank you.” He said avoiding another question. Howard closed the door as he left the room leaving Caleb all alone but only for a short while as the king entered shortly after. “ I wanted to make sure you learned properly to put on the clothes before you headed down.” “They’re just servant sire, nothing I don’t already understand.” “Just as well I thought I would walk you to the dinning hall as well. It can be confusing with the palace not finished yet, if it ever gets finished.”
