"Experimental Rats"

"Experimental Rats"

A Poem by Zoe Anne

“Experimental Rats”

I am nobody,

I want to be somebody.

I have no reflection,

I want to be the salvation.

My grave is empty,

But that shouldn’t have kept me,

From doing everything that I wanted to do,

But they keep feeding me this nasty food.

I’m being tested everyday,

But they didn’t give me a payday.

This environment is so strange,

It’s not like the home on the range.

They’re treating me like a rat,

And making me less phat.

They are giving me all of these sedatives,

I feel like I’m living without an initiative.

Now they tell me to go after advanced placement,

But all I can do is lament.

I am stationary,

Because life for me isn’t missionary.
