I remember youA Poem by Zoe ReneeThe smell of alcohol lingered across the room as I heard my mother scream. The noise was so blinding. As soon as my father rushed up the stairs I knew. I knew that she was hurting. My father went into the room and left the door wide open for my young eyes to view the horror about to take place. He pulled my mother out of the window before she could jump. Her naked drunk body seemed lifeless as she went limp in my father’s arms. He dragged her into the closet and closed the door shut with a belt round the handle. I can recall standing in the doorway when heard I glass break and then my mother shout. I was worried. My father opened the door and I saw red. Red everywhere. My mother was holding her hand which was bleeding and the smell of alcohol and metal filled the room. She was dripping, blood. I was running. Down the stairs and around the corner. The phone lied on the counter. When I picked it up I had to remember what number to dial. 911. “My mom, she, she, she’s hurt”. In a matter of minutes I heard the sirens of the cars three times as big as I was. I opened the door for them and sat outside in my little jammies. The bleeding mother of four was carried out in a sheet wrapped around her naked body. “Goodbye mom” © 2015 Zoe Renee |
