Chapter 15

Chapter 15

A Chapter by Keevan
"

Nooo! The mean peoples are back!!!

"

I grimaced and kept my head down, trying to walk as fast as I could. I don't know how, but they were somehow faster, despite the high-heels they were both wearing.

"Lucy!" Zoe said as if she were happy to see me. I sighed and turned around to face them. They looked the same as they did in high school, if not a little older.

"And where have you been these last few years, dropout?" Megan said.

"Yeah," Zoe said. "we missed you at graduation."

"None of your damn business," I mumbled, turning around. One of them caught my arm and had a tight grip.

"Let. Go," I said, my teeth clenched. "What do you want from me?"

"She's just the same as always, Megan," Zoe said snottily. "So rude and ignorant."

"Definately, Zoe," Megan said, keeping a firm grip on my arm. "And, look, she had an envelope with her. Let's see what's inside!"

I whirled around and clutched it close to myself, making sure they wouldn't get it.

"You can't have this," I said darkly. "Leave me alone before I pull out my gun." They both new I was an assassin in the military, but they didn't know that I quit.

They flinched and backed up, Megan releasing my arm. I spit on the ground in front of their shoes and walked away, praying that that would be the last time I ever saw those b*****s.

Running into the Hags from Hell got my mind off of what Envy said for a few minutes, but as soon as I sat down on the train, it all flooded back to me.

"What did he mean?" I whispered to myself. Then I looked around, hoping no one heard me like that little girl did.

The madness. The insanity. It's coming, Envy had said. Run while you can. It'll find you, and you won't be able to get away from your instincts. You're a Homunculus, and don't forget it.
What did he mean by that? What was going to happen? I haven't forgotten I'm a Homunculus, and I know I never will. The scar was still on my hand to prove it. But, the madness and the insanity....I didn't get it. Was something going to happen to me?

My stomach felt like it got tied in a knot. I realized I wasn't safe from anything if Edward was gone. That fear of being alone....

You're a damn fricken' assassin! my mind screamed at me. You've never been afraid of anything before! Suck it up and don't be a p***y, p***y!

"I know, I know," I physically whispered back. I leaned my head back and stared blankly out the window as the rolling hills of Resembool came into sight.

The lonliness slammed into my gut as soon as I stepped onto the dirt road. I was alone in my house again.

I sighed and focused on walking as the sky turned a deep shade of orange from the setting sun.

After a while of walking, my house came into view. I quickened my pace at first, but then remembered I was going home to an empty house.

"I need to get a car," was the first thing I said as I stepped up the steps. I paused when I saw a package in front of the door.

I picked it up, and the return adress said it was from Maya, Marn. Marn's package came quicker than expected.

"Whee, another birthday gift," I said unenthusiastically. I tucked it under my arm with the envelope of money and dug around for my house key in my pocket.

After dropping the key twice, I got it in the lock and finally opened the front door.

Minutes later, after turning on the light and kicking off my shoes and throwing my coat on the floor, I picked up the package from Marn once again and sat on the couch, not sure what could be inside the box.

I finally took a deep breath and used a butter-knife to slice open the tape, and then I opened the box.

Inside was a photo in a frame of a young girl that looked a lot like me, except her eyes were a dark blue instead of my bright green. I picked up the photo frame and new instantly that it was a picture of my mother, Mizune. I turned it over and saw a date carved in the back: April 11th, Mizune turns twenty.

I found myself smiling as I set the picture down on the table.

"Thank you, Marn," I whisper to myself.
