Chapter 10A Chapter by Keevan"Havoc is on his way to back me up," Riza said as she hung up the phone. Edward released my hands as she turned around. She walked over to where Edward and I were and picked the gun up off of the coffe table. "I'm going to the station to meet up with him," she said. "Lucy, please feel better soon." I shakily nodded and sat there, unmoving, until she left. After I heard her car rumble away, Edward stood up and asked, "Can I get you anything?" I shook my head and fell on my side, hugging my knees. "Just leave me alone," I whispered, squeezing my eyes shut. "Go do whatever, I don't care. Just go." _____________________________________________________________________________
"You're a wuss." Edward's voice rung in my ears, my spine turning to ice. "Nothing but a b***h and a coward." "I'm not!" I screamed, covering my ears with my hands. I couldn't see anything. Nothing but black, all around. And then I saw Edward. Short again, his hair in a braid, his red coat flowing. "You're nothing but a joke," he said, his words seeping slowly into my like poison. "A weak, spineless, pitiful creature who can't even stand up to her own father. The killer inside you is dead." He spat on me. "Nothin left but the useless remains." "Shut up!" I screamed. "SHUT THE HELL UP!" "He's right." My blood ran cold as I turned around and saw Colonel Mustang. His face was expressionless. "Nothing but useless remains," he said, repeating what Edward said. "I thought you were strong, brave," Alphonse said. I turned around and saw the empty suit of armor. He was in pieces, like that night when that psycho killer blew him apart. "I was completely wrong." "Alphonse," I whispered, feeling the tears roll down my face. "You belong with us," a rough and chilling voice said. I turned it around and saw it to be Envy, dressed in black, with his spikey hair in every direction. "You are a Homunculus after all." "I don't belong with you!" I screamed. "I'm more human than anything else!" "Liar!" Edward screamed. I turned around screamed as well. His AutoMail arm was ripped off, as was his AutoMail leg. There was blood running down his face from his head, which had a thick bandage around it. "You lied to everyone!" he shouted, straining his voice. "You were a Homunculus this whole time! You were probably planning to kill us all just to make yourself human! YOU LIED!" That's what really broke me. Edward shouting at me that I lied. I sunk to the floor and just laid there, trying to tune out the screaming in my head. "Wake up. You have to wake up. Lucy!" ____________________________________________________________________________
Edward
I glanced over at Lucy occaisionally from my seat at the kitchen, looking at, but not reading, the newspaper. It was bugging me how easily defeated she was just from seeing her father, and not being able to shoot him. I glanced at her again. This time, she was shaking. I decided to wake her up. "Lucy," I said gently as I walked over to her and shook her arm. "Lucy, get up." Her shaking got more violent. I saw tears escape her eyes, which were now squeezed shut. "Wake up," I said a little louder. "You have to wake up. Lucy!" Her eyes suddenly were open and wide, as if something scared her awake. "Lucy, are you okay?" I asked, helping her sit up. Her arms were wrapped tightly around herself. Her green eyes were bright and alert, tears still streaking her face. This Lucy was so different from the Lucy I first met. She was so calm and collected back then, nothing could strike a nerve with her except stupidity. But, this Lucy sitting before me, was the one that was really inside. Scared, defenseless, alone. And sad. For some reason, looking at this poor girl, I wanted her to feel better. To be happy. To not be alone anymore. _____________________________________________________________________________
Lucy
My eyes darted around the room, not sure if I was still dreaming or not. But Edward next to me with his concerned expression told me I was awake. "Lucy, are you okay?" he asked, helping me sit up. I kept my arms hugging myself tightly, not wanting to let go, lest I fall apart. I felt tears still roll down my cheeks. Edward just sat in front of me for a moment, his eyes never straying from mine, until I whispered his name: "Edward..." He shook his head and asked, "What's the matter?" "Just...a bad dream," I said, commanding my voice not to quaver or shake. It didn't listen, though. My right hand found my sweatshirt zipper, and unzipped it, thus taking ahold of the heart-shaped locked underneath. I clutched it and didn't left go, the cold steel feeling like ice in my grip. "Do you really think I'm spineless?" I asked suddenly. "Do you?" "Why would I think that?" Edward asked, just as serious. "Why would anyone think that?" "Because I..." I started, not sure how to word it. "I'm weak. Weaker than I was before, anyway." "No, you're not," Edward said, placing his hand over mine, which was still clutching the locket around my neck. "It happens to everyone at some point. Think of it as your heart of steel softening to let more in, or something like that." "Ed," I whispered, putting my head down. "Why?" "Why what?" "Why do you care?" I asked. "Why are you still by my side?" "Heh, simple," he said, scooting closer to me. "We're friends." "That's the answer you always give," I said, squeezing my eyes shut. "Why is it always the same!?" "I--I just--" "You just don't know," I said, cutting him off. We both stood up, and I was about to head upstairs, when Edward caught my arm and did something totally unexpexted: he hugged me and wouldn't let me go. © 2011 KeevanAuthor's Note
