Chapter 7A Chapter by KeevanAh, Lucy's birthday. :3My birthday was quick and uneventful. That is, until after dinner that night. After I finished cleaning up the dishes and putting everything away, Edward pulled a small cake out of the fridge. "Why?" I asked, my hand gripping a knife that I pulled out of the knife block. "Can't have a birthday without cake," Edward said shrugging. "So, I lied twice. I did do a little planning. As in, I made a cake when you were out, and bought you something when you made me go buy carrots and celery. The reason it took so long, was because I went to Central and got it." "So you lied about visiting your dead mother?" "No, of course not!" he shouted defensively. "I seriously did buy her flowers and leave them on her grave. Go take a look if you want!" "We both know I'm too lazy to walk all the way down to the graveyard," I said, yawning. Edward cut two pieces of the cake, and it was actually pretty good, despite the mounds of frosting Edward put on it. After we finished, Edward said he'd clean the plates later. He led me to the couch, and told me to sit, hold out my hand, and close my eyes. I obviously just sat there and glared at him with my arms crossed. "Don't ruin the moment," he said with a sigh. "Just do it." "Fine," I said, giving up. I closed my eyes and held out my hand, which was greeted with a small fuzzy box. I opened my eyes and looked at it. It was black, and Central Jewelers was engraved on top of the box in gold lettering. I didn't know what to think about it, but my first question was, "How much did this cost you?" "That doesn't matter," Edward said. "Just open the box." I nodded and slowly flipped the lid open. Inside was a silver heart locket with a gold chain. There was an "L" in gold on the front. "E-Edward," I studdered. "A necklace to match your bracelet," he said. "The only thing I used alchemy on it was for the "L", and what's written on the back of the locket." I took it out of the box, hand's shaking, and fingered the heart-shaped locket, and felt something etched in the back. I turned it over, and saw Fullmetal in elegant letters. "Edward..." "Now, before you say anything," he said. "Look inside." I shakily opened the locket and couldn't believe what I saw. There was a picture of Edward and I as kids in it. Etched on the inside of the front of the locket was:
Friendship is always right around the corner. Don't forget your friends.
I wanted to start crying. "I know it's a little cheesy," Edward admitted. "Alphonse helped me think of something to put inside it. And if you're wondering about the picture, I found it in a box that was buried in my old front yard. Remember that? We wanted to make a time capsule, you and I. My mom took this picture." "Edward," I said, putting the necklace back in it's box. I hid the tears I felt roll down my face. "I can't accept this!" I slammed the small necklace box on the coffe table and ran to the door, wrenching it open and running outside. I just wanted to run forever. Run and never look back. I didn't even know why. ______________________________________________________________________________
I ended up at the graveyard. And, just my luck, it started raining again. Hard. At least there was no thunder. I was now positive that my depression was back in full-swing. I should've been cold, walking around aimlessly out there in a thin unzipped sweatshirt with wind and rain slapping my face. But I was numb. What Edward did was too much for me to handle emotionally. My mind couldn't even process what he did... A headstone caught my eye. I went toward it and bent down to read it: Serah Marie Riinath. The date was too faded to read. The headstone next to it had flowers on it: Mizune Rose Maya-Riinath. My mother. The date on that one, too, was too faded to read. I sat in front of Serah's and put my hand on it. "You went through so much, tried to protect me from so much," I whispered. "Serah...I should've died, not you..." The thunder boomed loudly. ______________________________________________________________________________
Edward
"What the hell did I do!?" I said to myself. I looked at the necklace box. Did she not want it? Did she think I was proposing or something!? I heard a thunder clap, and looked out the window. It was raining heavily. "I have to go look for her." I found my coat, and an umbrella, along with a flashlight. After three minutes since I left the house, two things occurred to me. 1) She always seemed to get stuck in the rain, and 2) I had no idea where she went. But something told me that I should go in the direction of the graveyard. After I made my way there, I looked around, and saw she was nowhere in sight. As I made my way further in, THEN I saw her. She was sitting on her knees in front of a headstone, head down, hand on the top of the stone. If I didn't know better, I'd of said she was crying. Good thing I DID'T know better. ______________________________________________________________________________
Lucy
I felt something heavy drape around my shoulders. I looked up at Edward through my tears, and felt like crying all over again. Edward had come looking for me. Again. © 2011 KeevanAuthor's Note
