Chapter 20

Chapter 20

A Chapter by Keevan

Colonel Mustang made me check back into the hospital, despite my protests that I was fine. After a few days there, I was able to go.

It was after I left the hospital, that I realized I didn't know where to go. The day before, I had made it clear to the colonel that I had quit the military. So, Central Command was out. There was no point in going back except....

The thought hit me, and I made my way to see the colonel.

I gently placed my gun and pocketwatch on his desk.

"So, that last battle made you quit?" he asked with amusement.

"Yeah," I replied. "I'm done with the military. I'm eighteen, I'm on my own. I'm withdrawing all of the money I have saved in my reasearch account. I'm planning on using it to buy a house for myself."

"Where are you going to live?"

     "Resembool," I said without hesitation.

"What about that man?" the colonel asked. "Your father?"

I had completely forgotten about him. I shuddered and said, "I can take care of myself. He can't bully me around anymore."

"I believe that Alphonse said Edward is going to be living with Winry and Pinako for a time," the colonel said. "Why don't you and him go check your father's house, and if he's still there, call me. My men will arrest him. We have proof enough."

     "What proof?"

"Your scared face that day you and Edward came and told me about him is proof enough," he said.

After withdrawing my money, having it tucked away in an envelope, I boarded a train to Resembool. Leiutenant Hawkeye had driven me there.

Probably the last time she'll ever have to drive me anywhere.

"Goodbye, Lucy," she said after we got out of the car at the train station.

"Yeah, bye, Leiutenant," I said, shaking her hand goodbye.

"Call me Riza," she said. "You're not in the military anymore."

"Fine, Riza." I walked up the steps to the station, and waved goodbye one last time before going in.

Sitting on the train and watching everything zip by made me feel sad. Everything had worked out fine in the end, but if you would have asked me two years ago how things would turn out, I would have probably answered terrible. But, hey, that's life.

Arriving in Resembool, I realized that I didn't know how to start. I had yet another life to live.

I laughed silently to myself, thinking about it. I had three lives, in my mind. The bratty sixteen year old assassin, the "troubled girl" in Munich with no parents, and then this eighteen year old Lucy who has finally gotten her life straightened out.

     Almost.
