Chapter 10

Chapter 10

A Chapter by Keevan

"Back so soon?" Gracia said, surprised when I stumbled into the flower shop. "You were gone barely thirty minutes. Where's Edward?"

"Never mind that!" I shouted, furiously wiping my eyes.

"Lucille, why are you crying?" Gracia asked. I saw Dieter's head poke out from behind the counter, and he immediately ran to me. I shook my head and ran up the stairs into the house, Dieter following.

I laid curled up in my bed until dark. And when dark came, I just rolled over. Dieter laid at my feet.

Right before I fell asleep, Gracia knocked lightly on the door and said, "Lucille, Edward's here. Do you want to talk to him."

     I didn't answer. I just pretended I was asleep.

Mistake. The door opened, and Gracia said, "She's sleeping. Just make it quick and try not to wake her up."

"Okay," he mumbled. The door closed, and I heard soft footsteps walk to my bedside. Dieter growled and got off the bed. I heard him padding away to another corner in the room.

All I could feel was the heavy presence of Edward standing by my bed, my back to him, and the heavy tention he brought with him.

He said nothing but this: "I don't like this either." And then his footsteps trailed to the door, which opened and closed, his footsteps trailing away.

I stayed up for hours crying softly to myself.

I stayed in bed the next morning. I didn't feel like getting up.

It was about seven at night when Gracia litterally dragged me out of bed and shoved me outside.

"You're not turning into a hermit," he said sternly. "Go for a walk or something." She even gave me sone money. So, around Munich I wandered, not really sure what to do.

So, I did what just popped into my mind: I bought three bottles beer from the local store.

One bottle later, I went to my hill. I wasn't even near drunk yet, but was heading there, one drink at a time.

I got up and, for no reason, threw the empty bottle at a tree, watching it break into a million pieces. I shook my head out and did the same to the other two, even though they were full.

"That's for you, you damn Gate!" I shouted into the night sky. I made my way along the path, taking a detour and going by a river.

It was risky going there, because that's where the Nazis were sometimes stationed at night.

I walked along the river slowly, just staring into the sparkly water. I looked up at the sky, wishing I was back in Amestris.

My thoughts were finally collected, and I knew that that breakdown in front of dopplegangar Edward was totally unnecessary and uncalled for.

Then some other things clicked into place: the fact that Edward had said something about getting me a dog two years ago when he saw Dieter, when he said the thing about my hand still not being healed. The fact he called me Lucy when I dropped him off at his house after the carnival. And when he said "I don't like this, either" by my bedside the previous night.

Things were clicking together extremely fast. I ignored the headache that was building and felt my heart flutter.

I was certain of one thing: the "dopplegangar Edward" wasn't a dopplegangar. He was the real Edward.

My Edward. And I had to find him.

I ran along the river bank to town, and almost missed the big body of armor and Edward that were sitting side by side nearby. I saw the armor slouch forward, and there was alarm written all over Edward's face.

"Alphonse," I muttered. "Alphonse!" I ran to them.

"L-Lucille!" Edward shouted surprised when he saw me. I ignored him and knealt in front of the suit of armor.

"Al, are you in there?" I said, taking off the helmet. "Alphonse Elric!" I looked inside and felt sick. There was nothing but blood and crushed bones inside.

"Just...a mutilated person," I mumbled, putting the helmet back on the armor. "Great..."

"What did you call him, Lucille?" Edward asked. "How did you--"

"Cut the crap and just call me Lucy, Edward," I said, standing up and facing him. "You know, the assassin you know from Amestris?"
