Chapter 6

Chapter 6

A Chapter by Keevan

Edward kept me on a short leash. He wouldn't let me out of his site. We ended up walking around and around the carnival until it was time for Alfons's rocket launch, which was actually pretty impressive.

Their rocket easily went one hundred feet in the air, but what people are fretting about is.....no one knows where the rocket went. But most don't care. They're just happy they saw a rocket launch.

"Pretty cool, Alfons," I said to him when he came over after the launch.

"NOT cool!" he said. "The angle was wrong! And there wasn't enough fuel in the engine!"

"But these people don't know that," Edward pointed out. "Most of them have never even seen a launch before.  Trust me, no one noticed."

"I've never seen a rocket launch before myself," I said, staring in the sky at the trail that the rocket left. "It's trully amazing."

"Don't even try to flatter me," Alfons said to Edward. "It was way off, and it was a terrible launch, and you know it."

Edward was getting annoyed, and he said, "You know what? This is exactly why I hesitated coming here today. Nothing about your rockets is ever good enough for you!"

"What are you talking about, Edward?" Alfons asked him, annoyance showing in his eyes, too.

"I'm talking about that," Edward said as he pointed to the launch pad. "It's never good enough for you because it can never be 'perfect'. Well, it was perfect to a lot of other people around here, so why can't it be perfect to you?"

Alfons was going to say somthing, stopped, tried again, stopped to think, and then sighed in defeat. He waved us off and went back to the launch pad with his crew.

"Is he gonna be okay, Edward?" I asked. Edward shook his head and said, "Alfons is going to be fine. Let's just go."

"Uh, okay," I replied. "Where to?"

"Munich," he said. "I want to go home."

It was a silent ride back to Munich. But, when we got there, more people were filling the streets. That meant that the carnival was nearly done for the day. Without thinking, I droved to Edward and Alfons's home and dropped him off there.

"Thanks, Lucy," he said. I felt a jolt in my spine when he said that.

     "Excuse me?" I practically shouted.

"What?" he said. Then he blushed madly and said, "I-I mean Lucille. Sorry, Lucy's an old friend of mine, you look a lot like her." And without any hesitation, he ran inside the house and slammed the door.

"He...called me Lucy," I mumbled to myself as I drove the car back to the flower shop. "Does.....does dopplegangar Edward have a friend named Lucy...?" I was starting to confuse myself madly, so I shook my head and parked the car in front of the flower shop.

"Gracia, I'm home," I called as I went in. I hung her silver car key on the keyrack behind the counter, and looked around. I couldn't find her, and the shop was open.

"Gracia?" I called when I went in the house. I found a note on the table and read it.

"Dear Lucille," I read aloud. "I....I went to the...the karneval...? Oh, the carnival." I cleared my throat and tried again.

"Dear Lucille," I said again. "I went to the carnival with Mr. Hughes. You know, the police officer that always hangs around here? Anyway, I'll be back by ten. Don't wait up for me." I couldn't read the rest of the note. Too advanced German. Hell, I was surprised I was able to read as much as I did!

"Oh, Gracia," I mumbled as I set the note down. "Didn't even bother to close the shop...."

I waited up for her. It was already past eleven, and she wasn't back yet. Gracia was at least five to seven years older than me, A "RESPONSIBLE" ADULT, and it was past her "curfew"!

She finally quietly entered through the door, the room dark. I lit one lamp, scared the crap out of her, and said, "You're in a lot of trouble, young lady."

"Oh, Lucille," she said with a laugh. "You scared me."

"Where have you been?" I asked sternly, crossing my arms. "You were supposed to be home well over an hour ago. Explain yourself, missy!"

She sighed, and said, "Mr. Hughes, you know, that nice policeman? I explained him in the letter I left. Anyway, like I said in the letter, he took me to the carnival."

"You didn't close the shop!" I said. "Someone could've come and stole the flowers! Not to mention the money."

"Oh, Lucille," she said, hiccupping and giggling. "You need to loosen up! You're so stiff, it's like some Nazi shoved a stick up your butt!"

"Excuse me!?" I shouted at her. She stumbled, laughed again, and I caught her, quickly catching the strong scent of the local beer.

     "Gracia, he got you drunk!"

"That explains soo much!" she gushed. "You're a genius, you know that!?"

"I'm starting to wonder who the adult here is," I mumbled as I helped her up the stairs to her room. She giggled all the way up.
