Chapter 4

Chapter 4

A Chapter by Keevan

It felt like I was everywhere in the room at once. In the hospital room in Central City, Amestris. I couldn't leave the room. I couldn't move. I just stood there and stared on at what was happening.

Alphonse entered the room, a small bouquet of flowers in his hands. He set

them on the table and looked at my unconscious body, completely unaware of my presence, looking his way.

"Hi again, Lucy," he said. "I know you can't hear me, but I want to tell you about my day. I'm a State Alchemist now. Remember what that is?" He took out his pocketwatch, the item that all State Alchemists were given to show their rank in the military.

"My commanding officer is Colonel Mustang. Remember him?" he continued. A heavy silence filled the room. Alphonse sighed and said, "Please, wake up soon. I want to talk to you person to person, so maybe I can remember more about you." And he left the room.

I woke up, tears running down my face. Gracia was standing over me, a worried look on her face.

"Lucille, you were crying so loud in your sleep," she said softly. "Is everything all right?"

"I, uh," I said, sitting up and wiping the tears away. "I'm sorry. Bad dream, nothing to worry about.

"Was it another dream about your parents? Are you still worried about them?" she asked. When I first came to Munich, I was lost, and I ended up going to the flower shop because the flowers caught my eye. I told Gracia that I was separated from my parents, and that I couldn't find them. I said we had been separated for days.

That's what conviced Gracia to let me live with her for a while. In return, I told her I'd help her with the flower shop, despite her protests. I said I didn't want to be a burden to her for no reason.

"I...I don't remember what it was about," I lied. "I'm fine, just forget about it."

"I...okay," she said. "Breakfast in ten." She left my room and went downstairs. She knows I won't eat, but I decided that morning to eat and make her happy after scaring her like that. I yawned and got up, wiping away a stray tear that fell.

Slow day.

I had been sitting at the counter for an hour and a half, and only two peple came in and bought flowers.

"Gracia, my dear, I'm afraid that there's no need for flowers in Munich anymore," I said to her as she was aranging some vases for display. She sighed and said, "Please, Lucille, don't jinx us. We need the money."

"Right, right," I said, yawning. I was tired all the time. My guess was that it was because my body back in Amestris was sleeping forever and ever.

I want to go home, I thought to myself. Things are so boring here!

This time, Gracia yawned, and said, "Lucille, why don't you go on break early? I'll take care of everything until you get back."

     "You sure?"

"Positive. Go have fun. You're eighteen, go get a boyfriend or something!"

"H-Hey!" I stammered, caught off guard. "I can when I'm good and ready!"

She started laughing, and I couldn't help but crack a smile. But it faded away quickly when I remembered what Edward had said to me when I had started school again, and I tried on my uniform.

I used to wear jeans and sweatshirts all the time. My uniform was a white blouse with black pants. Alphonse said I looked pretty, and I told him to shut up.

"You need to look more like a girl," Edward had said when I told Alphonse to shut up, that I liked jeans and sweatshirts."Then you can get a boyfriend, which I think you desperately need!"

I lowered my head so Gracia couldn't see my expression, and I said I'd be back in a half hour. I left the flower shop and ran to my hill.

I sat in the grass and let the tears spill, remembering that day. Remembering that horrible school. Remembering my friend Vincent. Remembering a boy named Envy killing Vincent. What I thought was odd, was that I hadn't seen another Vincent around Munich. And I had a strong feeling in my gut that I was going to see him at the carnival the following weekend.

I shuddered and stood up, bracing myself against the cold wind that started blowing.

"Miss Lucille," I heard. "What are you doing here? Why don't you have a coat on, it's cold today!" I turned around and saw Edward, the fake one who I didn't like to look at.

"I was just...sitting," I said, quickly wiping away my tears. "and I didn't think it would be that cold, that's why I don't have a coat." WIthout looking at him, I walked past him and said, "I need to get back to the flower shop. I'll see you later, Edward."

I felt his eyes burning holes in my back as I walked away. The question on my mind: God, why are you punishing me like this?
