Rain

Rain

A Poem by Brummy59

As she laid her cheek against mine, tears ran from our eyes. Joining together like streams connect to a river. For every tear that drops a little bit of love is lost. We fell in love together and slowly we fell out while in each other's arms. The world didn't blend behind her anymore, and I didn't make life less awkward.

As if who I loved didn't lay next to me anymore, just a person who looks similar. I didn't have the same conviction in my voice when I told her I loved her. When she tells me everything will be ok, it's parrot talk and she doesn't care if it's true anymore. Scared to be alone yet each other's company long loathed. Like a hand painted egg, on the outside we are beautiful but on the inside we are empty.

It's not like we wanted this to happen as we laid and discussed our future, what once had wedding bells and child laughter echoing in the distance, it now has resentment and a list full of why we didn't work. We want to love each other, as if the gods forbid it we don't anymore. We can't really place a finger on when it started we both just know the inevitable.

We try to make a effort, please don't leave but we both know we are lying. Then when we finally say the words a rush of emotions come flooding out, as if my heart built a levy for my love for her, but it was too late. My emotions dammed, hers a dry lake. If it keeps on raining the levys gonna break....
