The day dragged on and on, I kept wondering when it would finally end, but eventually, the dreaded history class came.
“Hey, Lynne,” Valerie asked in a whisper like tone,” Are you ever going to ask him out?”
“Who?”
“You know, the kid who sat in front of you on the bus.”
“Oh, you mean Cordell. No. Never will. I told you earlier that I’m not interested in a relationship, especially with him, and he’s such an idiot. I’d rather be interested in someone, oh I don’t know, Smart.” I replied back in a venom voice.
“Well, well, someone’s in a bit of a mean mood. I’d give him a chance.”
“No way in heck! Leave me alone about this!”
“Fine, fine.”
Our little chit-chat had been interrupted by Mr. Fern, who happen be looking at us the entire time.
“You girl’s! I said no talking! You’ll both get detention if you continue to too!”
Gah. I hate this stupid class, but it’s the only one I happen to have with Val, so looks like I’ll be putting up with it. I should’ve switched to German class; I probably could’ve had that class with Vicky and David. I hope next year I don’t have to have history, but I think it’s mandatory. Stupid class.
“Hey Lynne!”
“What now Valerie”
“Think about it. Give him a chance.”
“Fine! Will you just shut up about it already?” I retorted back.
“Fine.”
Finally, the school day ended. I was on my way home, walking with Val.
“Val, do you ever think I’ll find someone compatible with me?”
“Uh, yeah. Everyone has there match, just look at me and Jake.”
“ That’s true, but you’ve had quite a bit of boy friends, you sure he’s the right one?”
“Yeah.”
And with that, we walked our separate ways home.
“I’m Home Big sister!” I yelled through the door to Kristin.
“Welcome home Lynne! How was your day at school?”
“ Well Val wouldn’t leave me alone about Cordell. She kept telling me to ask him out.”
“Cordell? Isn’t he, Oh what’s the right word for this…”she trailed off in thought.
“Loud mouth. Retarded. Annoying.” I answered immediately,
“Yeah, those all sound right.”
I had just finished walking through the door way, and I could smell the sweet scent of cake.
“Mmmmm… its chocolate cake again?” I asked in a questioning voice,
“ Wow. Good guess kiddo, your getting better at this,”
You see, the reason why I’m with Kristin, (or as I call her Kris,) is because my parents died in a terrible fire. It was the 4th of July when it happened. I was only 7 at the time, so I don’t really remember much. All I can say is fire works happened. My house caught fire on some of the home made fire works my dad got from our neighbors, (or so the tag said on it when it was in the gift basket, I still have the basket as my last living memory to my parents). That’s when Kris came around; she was one of my baby sitters my parents would hire, so she fought for my custody in court. My Aunt Teresa, and my Uncle Steven were seriously about to throw her through a wall when they found out she had got custody of me.
“Lynne, you know you’re going to be late for work! You better hurry!”
I forgot to mention, me and Kris both work to pay for our food and holidays, she inherited her grandparents house when they died around the time my parents did, so I had to move up to Redmond, Washington, from Pennsylvania, Jersey Shore.
“I know I know. I’m going.” I shouted halfway through the door way.
