Diaries from the Multiverse: HousekeeperA Chapter by Zebulon PoeAnother diary selected at random from just another soul living in the multiversal community with origins on Earth-001.July 6th, 2495
Today I was told that my job isn't up to par with all the other housekeepers. Well, sorry about that, it isn't rocket science, nobodys life depends upon it. Crap, I mean this job would be simple if it weren't for the supervisors, always looking over your shoulders, never satisfied with the results you give. I'm pretty sure the others are berated in the same ways, but seeing this is such a large ship, there's little chance I'll get to compare notes. They like it that way, no contact between the ants. Well, they wanted it to be absolutely perfect, as the crew is getting ready to shut the jump drive down and experience this new universe that apparently is invisible to sensors, or whatever that dumb helmsman made a crack about just earlier. Heck, I wouldn't be surprised if I felt the shudder of entry here pretty soon, as the red lights are flashing now. It always happens the same way, the red lights flash, time seems to stop for a second, and we're in another universe, free to experience what it has to offer. Sometimes there are problems, and we quickly jump out, but most of the time it's just another dull couple of days while they conduct their scans. Its really not that dull, as when they're doing scans, they stay busy, thus I'm always busy, cleaning this, picking up that, and earth star galaxy black hole alien ocean quasar jupiter star star red dwarf star star star black hole I try write not understand not get me see all, see all, seeing every star every galaxy see god see god see god where
Edited July 11th, 2495 I am still jarred by my experience, but I thought adding this bit will help me better understand it later. For a moment, when we entered that universe, we existed everywhere, absolutely everywhere. Every star I felt, every galaxy I marveled at, and I saw every single alien life form in that universe. When there is an object not connected to that universe, it somehow becomes everything, and everyplace at the same time, always solid, yet always ethreal. This has restored my faith in a higher power, as what if a being from a universe like that came to our universe. They would exist everywhere naturally, like the stories of the omnipresent gods of old. For a moment there, I swore I felt the presence of a being beyond my understanding, who's very nature was beyond description. Anyways, I can still see flashes of all the different places, but I know I'd never remember all of them, thats probably why I fainted after a few seconds, along with all the other crewmembers. We were obviously overwhelmed with sudden godhood, so the computer registered that we all fell, and quickly jumped out of that universe. Alright, well, I'm back to work again, and the boss is as hellish as always, you'd think omnipresence would change an a*****e, well, guess not. Just wish he could've spent a little more time in my shoes.. © 2009 Zebulon Poe |
