The corona catastrophe

The corona catastrophe

A Poem by S.zaynab.kamoonpury

Silently shrill
a silent chill
seems to have run down the spine
of our blue planet windmill
So many deceased
Too many ill
mounting and surmounting
the healthcare bill
Breathing for many
is like climbing uphill
or like panting on
your home treadmill
And it's frightening when
there is nil a pill.
A minute invisible
virus doth kill .
Pray to God for mercy
bow and kneel!
Many are dying
without a will
It's safer to stay home
by the window sill
The world seems to have come
to a standstill
You now have time to sharpen
your poetic quill
In lockdown pray
and ink still spill
You may hone
your poetic skill
Until the virus
has had its fill.
Corona they say feels like drowning
like a fish without a gill
for we can't breathe
like the eel or krill.
In mouths hot water
flush and swill
Exterminate this virus?
only God can and will.

The short lines and quick rhymes make this feel as chaotic as the world os right now. Many of these short thoughts express things going on now that are rather hard to articulate. A brilliant and timely piece

WOW! This is excellent! One of my favorites that I've read about the pandemic & there have been hundreds I've read! Great details! Great job of taking me inside the way it must feel . . . since I've pretty much missed the pandemic, here in the wilderness, it's hard to imagine what it's like for everyone else. Your rhyme & rhythm are well-done . . . one of my favorite aspects in poetry & you slammed it. Love the way the progression of how you laid your thoughts down feels like a marching drumbeat of doom (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

To the poet who calls himself FRIEND, the whole mocking thread of comment was deleted by someone , in which he picked on me but I still wish to clarify because gahh hah it puts me in an unfavourable light for those who read his comment, FRIEND was being quite impolite ,cynical really . You see I did not compare myself to Galileo, all I meant was that if an eminent well known scientist like Galileo was mocked then who am I a commoner to think myself above mockery. Besides westerners have indeed called me a scientist due to my scientific discourses and writes but I'm just a researcher with knowledge of some deep scientific matters.
And quite a few Western English poets have praised my English to be commendable for being an easterner with English only as a second language for me and they did say my vocabulary and poetry was good .
So now Poet FRIEND wants me to assume that all those on the many sites I write poetry on who say they liked my works ESP for content and English, and literary fun, are liars just after comments!
It's not a must for anyone to praise and like my culture and religion, I only seek an understanding of it from others, since it is really maligned in the media though many non Muslims do convert to Islam and gain a better understanding of Islamic culture.
I write poetry for fun, for entertaining readers , to spread my spiritual messages, to spread awareness, to speak and show for my insular culture of which not many write about.
So just be kind and try to create understanding btw humans than discord and misunderstandings and hate.

An interesting take on COVID-19. I agree with the message of this poem. Honestly, I'm not too interested in mono rhymes, but I know that you put your emotions into this work, and I respect that to the highest degree. We must quarantine for as long as possible. Otherwise, the virus will make quick work of us. We need a vaccine, because even some of those who have recovered have been found sick again, and end up dealing with the virus again. This means that even if everyone were to recover, the virus would continue to flourish. Thank you for sharing. Please stay healthy.

zaynab kamoonpury,
The thoughts and images presented are reminders of what has been through this holding period. I met a neighbor who contracted it when in Spain. He was with family and they all isolated and they all survived. He is 87 years old. I was of course relieved for he and his own! Good body of descriptive words.
Blessings,
Kathy

Your welcome!

I fear this is going to be bigger than anyone ever imagined.. if not immediately, certainly over time and I am usually an optimist... not enough is yet known about this beast although much has been said... what I do know however is that politicians probably kill more people than any single virus.... Take care and stay safe

Thank you, you too 👍
We fear the unknown ...rightly, cause how can we protect against what isn't known?

A worldwide pandemic of Chinese origin (yet again). BUT in reality the virus itself doesn't kill, it empowers our bodies to kill ourselves. So little real information has been disseminated by ANY media companies because of their politicizing of the crisis. There is no cure - only treatments and medicine remains an art NOT a science so long as people are unique individuals and not clones of a single DNA sourced host.

The real catastrophe is in the people and social cost... fear of others is accentuated, trust and faith shaken to our core. Societal class is an issue, education is an issue, age is an issue... wealth is an issue. Even isolation is an issue. Your poem characterizes and expresses some, though not all, of what concerns us as people... and does it well and with feeling.

Everyone's suffering in their own ways at this time but this is the time to make others feel that they are not alone. People forget the limit of distancing ... many people took it like mental distancing along with physical distancing. It has to change and this time has to go... there's no problem that doesn't has solution only it takes time.
Thanks for writing this poem!
