The corona catastrophe

The corona catastrophe

A Poem by S.zaynab.kamoonpury

Silently shrill
a silent chill
seems to have run down the spine
of our blue planet windmill
So many deceased
Too many ill
mounting and surmounting
the healthcare bill
Breathing for many
is like climbing uphill
or like panting on
your home treadmill
And it's frightening when
there is nil a pill.
A minute invisible
virus doth kill .
Pray to God for mercy
bow and kneel!
Many are dying
without a will
It's safer to stay home
by the window sill
The world seems to have come
to a standstill
You now have time to sharpen
your poetic quill
In lockdown pray
and ink still spill
You may hone
your poetic skill
Until the virus
has had its fill.
Corona they say feels like drowning
like a fish without a gill
for we can't breathe
like the eel or krill.
In mouths hot water
flush and swill
Exterminate this virus?
only God can and will.

A sign of the times. Future generations will be able to read this and understand exactly what the world feels right now. Nice work.

Your poem is cleverly written and has nice meter and rhyme. I like it. Perhaps consider:

In lockdown pray,
let ink still spill

These certainly are hard times and your poem captures it perfectly and skillfully.
I hope and pray this virus is eradicated soon.

Well written! You masterfully penned in a cleaver artistic way the suffering and hardship that people have due to this pandemic. It's easy to forget with time passing the danger that we face, cause we by nature accommodate difficulties that we face in life, but we must not forget and be careful, cause the most dangerous enemy of all enemies, is an invisible enemy that has no mercy and attacks anyone, any time and anywhere. Thank you for sharing this great poem.

Definitely like the rhyming flow. Has that old school hip hop feel. Ya, life has been strange to say the least. A piece well captured.

I like the content and the rhyming. You paint a true and sad picture of this terrible virus, from lock down to drowning in your own fluid, to death. With the lock-down you mention time to write poetry which is a positive endeavor. We know there is no "pill" to make it go away, but I don't believe God can do it either; it has to be science and that will take time. Very nice poem!

Thank you for your kind comment!
A rhyming observation on our current crisis here. The poet does not try to sweeten the situation, relating both the grim effects of the disease and the fact that as yet, there is no cure. I do like, however, the intent to deal with the difficulties by following recommended guidelines and putting the lockdown time to good creative use. In the end, as the poet notes, it is in the hands of a higher power.

You've certainly covered most of the aspects of this awful pandemic and the terrible toll it is having on our populations and planet. It is an awful disease and I hope to goodness we have a vaccine soon otherwise we will be living our lives without the freedoms we have taken for granted for many years. You have done so well with the flow and the rhyming of this piece. A good read.

More than likely, COVID-19 was created in a Chinese lab.
While designed to kill, it does have its limitations.
In any event, you capture the mood of the corona catastrophe, quite well.
Also, appreciated the clever word play.
An excellent offering, S,
