Mankind in dreamland

Mankind in dreamland

A Poem by S.zaynab.kamoonpury

Pestered and pursued
by unknown foes
A topsyturvy land
where snakes can have horns
and cows can have fangs.
Night'mares' where the day's stallions
make mountains out of molehills

A chance to witness greek mythology-like creatures for real
For dreamland tis a place for the unreal and surreal.

Those hair-raising scary frightening dreams
beset with horrified silent screams!

We do try to interrupt nightmares, pinching ourselves
With relief wake up to see there aren't any horrid elves.
We also try to interpret dreams filled with mystery
But gifted dream interpreters like prophet Joseph
Are now part of biblical human history

All in all, dreamland's fascination
for extra-ordinary exaggeration
and tall-tale imagination

Where myth and legend come to life
An amalgam of fiction or real strife

Where assorted monsters of the mind
reign supreme in that REM sleep of our kind.

Yet on the other hand the wishful, wistful sweet sweet dreams
where fantasies form mirages bordered by fanciful seams.

Where castles in the air that humans build, float gently down to earth
only to shoot back up unto nowhere from the awakened one's berth.

In dreamland a pauper girl can be a princess or fairy fair
for daydreams extend into the night and linger on there.

A quote I took to heart and it to console all and sundry
'that if your sweet dreams don't come true, don't you fret
for atleast your nightmares didn't come true either,
so just heave a sigh, by and by.

Every night let us all just ascend and fly to escape
And lo behold the extraordinary world of Dreamscape.

Hello my friend, so good to find you here. I did zap on your side picture to see the collage of beautiful dreamy pictures. My favourite is the castles in the air. Your wonderful opening stanza set the scene and drew me in. You describe well the sort of monsters we can encounter in our dreams in comparison to those wonderful happy ones that we feel sorry to leave when we wake up. I imagine that there are many, many people who wish to escape to dreamland in the hope of finding a happier place. Sometimes when I reflect on dreams, I think where did that come from? The mind is so powerful, so absorbing, it will always be a mystery. Thank you for my first read of the day. Chris

Wonderful opening verse. Some lovey description and word groups. It is indeed amazing what goes on in our dreams. I like the way you have contrasted the 'monster of the mind' state with the 'wistful sweet sweet dream' state, and the inclusion of the quote. I have heard it said that if you are feeling well and happy, you have monster dreams, but if you are feeling sad and miserable, you have lovely dreams! The mind is certainly an amazing thing! I enjoyed this poem.

Thanx so much for your comment.
this depicts our country quite nicely...the bad dreams coming to life...a mythological place where dragons rule, breathe fire to show strength...and where we all wish for a different dream to which to escape.

Nice logic shared in your words. Sweet dreams or deadly dreams. Just places our mind wander to. Thank you my friend for sharing the amazing poetry.

What a range of topics via imagination and fact you've included via your dream world and its value to you as its sentry! Fine th;s slightly erratice metre, but amazing tableaux of where and how. There are touches of both fairy and history books, horror and fantasy too. In fact, the dream cycle, the thoughts wondrous and thoughtful.
