Pestered and pursued
by unknown foes
A topsyturvy land
where snakes can have horns
and cows can have fangs.
Night'mares' where the day's stallions
make mountains out of molehills
A chance to witness greek mythology-like creatures for real
For dreamland tis a place for the unreal and surreal.
Those hair-raising scary frightening dreams
beset with horrified silent screams!
We do try to interrupt nightmares, pinching ourselves
With relief wake up to see there aren't any horrid elves.
We also try to interpret dreams filled with mystery
But gifted dream interpreters like prophet Joseph
Are now part of biblical human history
All in all, dreamland's fascination
for extra-ordinary exaggeration
and tall-tale imagination
Where myth and legend come to life
An amalgam of fiction or real strife
Where assorted monsters of the mind
reign supreme in that REM sleep of our kind.
Yet on the other hand the wishful, wistful sweet sweet dreams
where fantasies form mirages bordered by fanciful seams.
Where castles in the air that humans build, float gently down to earth
only to shoot back up unto nowhere from the awakened one's berth.
In dreamland a pauper girl can be a princess or fairy fair
for daydreams extend into the night and linger on there.
A quote I took to heart and it to console all and sundry
'that if your sweet dreams don't come true, don't you fret
for atleast your nightmares didn't come true either,
so just heave a sigh, by and by.
Every night let us all just ascend and fly to escape
And lo behold the extraordinary world of Dreamscape.
I've never had kids & so I never got into watching animated films, therefore my imagination is stunted -- not being able to fly as "out there" as many writers at the cafe (like you), thinking up outlandish ideas to write about. I love how your poem suggests that "dreamland" (which we usually think of as "positive") is actually an ugly place of terror dreams, implying that maybe "real life" is more dreamy than dreamland. This line of thinking reflects how confused our current times are, with so much bad in the world, it seems, maybe it's infected "dreamland" as well! Or, looking at your title, maybe you're saying mankind fouled up dreamland! Love it! (and agree!) Wishing you safe & healthy holidays full of love (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

I never fot to watching them much too, watched some in bits and pieces only. I hope you didn't mean my poems are outlandish.
Um yeah dreamland is both a place of sweet dreams and the occasional nightmares and even the neutral dreams.
I laughed at 'infected dreamland' the world seems a very scary place, but prayer can help keep us balanced.
Wishing you a very merry xmas and if you don't believe in it then happy hols!!🌷🌹

For spreading before us such a complex plethora of intricate depth to ponder. 🤔
Through your excellence in factual musings and creatively original imaginings, you offer us much in truth and wonderment to consider in our own adventures into dreamland.
Ya know(?), it's written that dreams are reflections of our daily thoughts, fantasies, fears, emotions, desires, wants, and secret inner needs, etc; and from my own dreamscape experiences, I cannot refute these notions. Though, I seldom have nightmares or dream of fears, I often find myself floating through fantasies and wondrously imagined scenarios … too many (and of the sort) to mention here. 😏
Your poetry echoes poetic voice in such ways that always speak to a place within that rouses a special feeling, emotion, thought, question, or answers I'd never considered … this splendidly rendered piece touches on so many levels and facets of REM activity, I could spend a week contemplating it all, and still never address every aspect you've introduced us to amongst and threaded throughout your words, lines, and verses.
Though, every aspect of this piece nudged me –- below, I've highlighted a couple'a verses that caught and held my attention:
"Yet on the other hand the wishful, wistful sweet sweet dreams
where fantasies form mirages bordered by fanciful seams.
Every night let us all just ascend and fly to escape
And lo behold the extraordinary world of Dreamscape."
Beautiful to feel and behold, Dear Lady-Poet … truly 'n fully enjoyed! 🥂
A most excellent title and artwork choice, too! ⁓ Richard 🍃

Ahh, pillow talk, eh?
Dreamland, has seasons of whimsy and moments of fear, salted with bitter tears of loss. We spend a third of our life in sleep. Who could track our daydreaming, as we flit about in our head. The majority of our Waking Mind's time is squandered on necessities, yet we do find ourselves trolling for those little moments that set our hearts free.
A detailed and very vivid description here of a dreamland. The poem seems to have metaphors, for instance 'where snakes can have horns and cows can have fangs,' and these bring the images to life. I enjoyed this poem, it is a very good example of a 'Fantasy' poem.

Dreamland is the most appropriate place for a poet to deliver his message. And you did it. The imagination and the impact your work depicts is refulgent. Keep Writing!
Do see and review my work 'War: A Threat to Humanity' set in a dreamland.

Sure I will do. Thanx for your thoughts on this too.
That line or the quote towards the end really does sum it all up well. Wonderful imagery, very vivid. Dreamy and ethereal as the dreamscape itself this one!
My word, what an incredible imagination you most certainly have and you managed to cram so much detail in too.....maybe based on a dream, or a nightmare or something......Whatever, these words made an interesting and enjoyable read and I thank you for them,,,, Neville
