I Wish You Were Here

I Wish You Were Here

A Poem by Zayir
"

This is about my grandfather who I lost in October 2017

"
How can I be the man you expected me to be,
If you aren't here to guide me?
Feels like a never ending nightmare
Seeing your dead body laying there
It took all of myself strength to not break down right then and there
Broke my heart when I saw my grandmother crying
I wish I could say I've moved on but I'd be lying,
I look in her eyes and all I see is pain
I still want to cry when I say your name,
I feel numb like I've been hit by a cold wave,
I know I won't be the man you want me to be
But I will be the man my family needs me to be
I lost part of myself that day,
I just wish you were here today...

Damn. This is hard stuff.
I lost my dad as a kid. I never cried... but I know it fucked me up. I mean, I still am a kid. I guess I won't know the full extent of things until I grow up a little more. For fear of sounding full of fake sympathies, I won't say the usual 'I'm sorry' etc. but I will say that I know a little about what this can feel like.
Your writing is sincere and simple, bringing out the tragedy even more... a beautiful read.

Firstly, my deepest condolences on your loss, dear Zayir. Your words tell me that he was a lasting influence on you and imparted great values to you. That in itself immortalises him in many ways. For we live through our generations. I know you appreciate life through all the pain and the grief it gives us at times especially in taking our loved ones away. Great words my friend.
