"The Frankness of the Night"

"The Frankness of the Night"

A Poem by Raef

Night is a release. Tell me:

Have you ever been walking down a road

not the sidewalk but the

middle bit and said to yourself something like

"Man, I never knew I could laugh so hard at a joke that I've already heard",

and then looked up to find the bright and shining day upon you?

No, you damn liar, 'cause you'd be getting yelled at by the sane people.

Anyhow.

Life isn't what life is;

It ain't the night to say the least,

Though it certainly does walk a fine line.

I mean, a razor's edge is a walk in the park in the eyes of the night,

Right?

A drink or two is golden, Ponyboy.

Those beer shoes are gonna make you famous, though;

morning news is going to be all about the guy who blew his guts open the day before with Budweiser.

And let me ask you,

is that where you wanna be, dead, when your buds are runnin' through the park with THEIR Buds,

laughing and falling until they get to the place I was talking about.

And there we'll lie until the loud guy quiets down and something touches us in the most subtle and intimate of ways. And then all there is to see and hear is stars. And damn are they a sight.
