"No Way to Go"

"No Way to Go"

A Poem by Raef

"Talent? What talent, man?
You're jiving, man, thinking about
How far they've come, when really
It's just
Encouragement you're seeing, man.
You shouldn't be giving them encouragement,
You should be giving them that thing you do with your eyes.

Y'know?

That rip-roarin' look you gave me once, last Saturday night.
Last Saturday you gave me chills, man.
You gave me such a turn.
Didn't know where you were going with it;
All that hooey about ethics.
Tell me, did you come up with all that?
Did someone else come up with it? Did someone else?

Y'know,

I never really liked being me.
Never gave me a second thought, really, because
Man, do I wanna be someone.
Not this someone, a someone-someone.
That talent, that somebody-talent.
That thing you can show to your future wife and say:
"Hey, remember when we were kids,
And I first showed you how to dance?"
Remember that? Remember when we were kids?
Remember how we used to sleep under that low hedge,
Not caring if there were bugs or not,
And the bugs didn't care, 'cause we didn't,
And we would just lie there and be.

Y'know,

I've been thinkin' a whole lot lately.
I'm serious.
I've been thinking about the past, man.
'Bout the future, too, but the present isn't giving me jack, man.
I've got no inspiration from the now,
Now ain't got no talent.
None whatsoever.
My father says, my mother says, Hell, especially her,
She says that the past ain't nothin',
Gotta look to the future.
Hell, what future can I build on this?

Y'know?

Wish I was him. Or him. Or him.
Not because of what he's got, not because of him.
His experiences? Yeah, yeah man. That's it.
His experiences are what made him him, and not me. I'm me
Because somebody thought I could ride a horse, and I
Fell off that damn horse, and eventually I fell out of love with
Someone who never gave me a second thought when it came to
Love.
And man, does it ever feel like a lump in my throat when I hear the words
"You sure are something".
Because something ain't what I am; it ain't even the basis of me.
No-accounts don't have the jump on me.
Because I am the damn norm, man.
I've got nowhere else to go,
But onto my damn paper."

I am glad you asked me to read this, with a few changes, a few tweaks you'd have written my story instead. I like the way you worded this and the flow you created. Really though, I love everything about this piece. normally with something as long as this I think I'd have lost interest, but i didnt. It was great. amazing write
