Chapter OneA Chapter by Zare
I shrugged a backpack over my shoulder and followed my best friend out the door. Foster Mom-as I had affectionately nicknamed our foster mother- had packed all five of us lunches. Well, she packed six lunches and hoped we wouldn't notice the tears in her eyes when only five kids came downstairs.
I would feel bad for her if it wasn't my twin brother who she was crying for. This was my first day of school without him and I didn't know what the hell I was supposed to do. I still had my five best friends but they weren't the same. They were practically my siblings-I mean we lived together-but Nic was like a part of me. It was like I was going to school without my arm or something. Damn, I missed that boy. And I couldn't help but blame his kidnapping on myself. We shouldn't have been out in public, where people could see us, and what we were doing. Of course, it was my idea. Midnight easily agreed, and Blaise, but Nic, Anthony, and Andrea were a little more worried that we'd get caught. The six of us still went out and did it anyways. Lately, I've been listening to Anthony and Andrea a lot more than I thought I would, since they were right about the stupidity of my idea. "It's gonna be ok." I head Andrea say, behind me. "And stop thinking that. It wasn't your fault. It wasn't anyone's fault." "Don't tell me what to think." I snarled, stepping onto the bus. "And get out of my head." I hissed. I would've shouted it, but I didn't like people thinking I was crazy. Midnight let out a giant laugh, Andrea rolled her eyes. She was past being hurt by my mean comments. I never had learned to think before I spoke. Andrea and Anthony were twins, so were Midnight and Blaise, and Nic and I. Three sets of twins who lived with the same foster family-which consisted only of Foster Mom-and had special powers. Andrea and Anthony could read minds, Blaise could control fire, Midnight could control water, Nic and I were super-strong and super-fast. It's just how we were. In the words of Lady Gaga, I was born this way. And so were they. At this point, after sixteen years, it was no big deal to us. No one ever told us we had to keep it secret, we just kind of figured it out on our own. It was one of those things you realize with time. Other people don't have powers, it's weird that we do and we shouldn't let them know because they'll be jealous, they'll want to know why, and how. Here's why: We're twins. Twins have powers. At least, twins with the right ancestry do. We're purebloods, other twins-without powers-are mudbloods, and normal people are muggles. I'm not the nerdy one who came up that analogy, I believe that was Blaise-the biggest geek ever. So, that's us. That's our big secret. And that's why my twin brother, Nic was kidnapped. My twin brother, Nic, with his long, curly, dirty blondish hair and chocolate brown eyes with gold speckles. Nic was that cool, his eyes weren't just brown, they were brown with gold flecks. That and his surfer tan skin and tall and lean physique was why girls constantly told me how hot he was. I suppose I look like him, though girl's don't constantly tell me how hot I am. There's a few differences though-one being that I have b***s. I also have straight hair, though the same dirty blondish color. My eyes are also brown but I don't have gold flecks. Actually, mine are more of a dark brown that look pretty menacing when I get angry-or so I've been told. Also, I'm not quite as muscular, though I'm just as strong if not stronger. Blaise and Midnight look much like their powers would suggest. Midnight was tall and skinny with dark black hair, so dark it was practically blue. She had electric blue eyes and pale skin. Blaise also had pale skin and electric blue eyes, though those were basically the only similarities. He had short, spiky, bright red hair and freckles covering his pale skin. While he was short and skinny, Midnight was tall and thin. Andrea and Anthony were popular and they looked it. They both had tortoise-shell green eyes and brown hair. Andrea had curly brown hair with sidebangs and Anthony had longish brown hair that flipped out as his chin. They were the two that most easily blended into a crowd, considering Midnight and Blaise look like wizards or something. The bus pulled into the school and I inwardly groaned. Nic went missing friday night. It was my first school day without him and I didn't do my homework over the weekend-I was a little preoccupied worrying about my brother. The thing is, my teachers hated me and I only had one class with Nic. Maybe that one teacher would show me some sympathy. The others would give me some bullcrap lecture about needing to be more responsible. Then, I would probably flip out and start screaming about how my brother just got kidnapped before being sent to guidance. Yeah, welcome to my life.
