Surprised By the City

Surprised By the City

A Poem by Zany
"

What I got for actually going for a walk around Washington Heights

"
and then I'm met by the crowded order of lights-the windows
of the far reaching building's of Washington Heights
like some beautiful Tim Burton creation- though with no gruesome edge.
i'm met by the city-all at once on my walk,
airplanes must be nearby on this edge of precipice
Distance becomes a tangible word.
All at once- the city twinkles at me-as do the lives- mechanical, automotive or stone
or flesh,  warm in pods behind the lights- countless and sacred as the quiet moment
atop, at one with the city
as it knocks my breath out in a rush
leaving a full absence,
A gift of the night
when I've finally
decided
 to go on a walk.
