We, Your Child Soldiers

We, Your Child Soldiers

A Poem by Zan

In the silence of my mind
I see a bird taking flight
dripping ink across the page
there is war to wage
We, your child soldiers
with our minds in
your glowing forges
We will not be broken
though you're hoping
we will not fight for you.
Like a kitten with her yarn, I chase my thoughts
unraveling in scribbles of pen-marks on paper
We, your child soldiers
with our minds in
your glowing forges
We will not be broken
though you're hoping
we will not fight for you.
Now the alphabet
will be my sword and
I will fight back
mutiny - it seems lawful
when the alternative
is treason to my heart
We, your child soldiers
with our minds in
your glowing forges
We will not be broken
though you're hoping
we will not fight for you.
