Winter Wheat

Winter Wheat

A Poem by Zan

Winter winds sweeping in a low blanket of lonely fog
The air cold and grey, settling ice on restless hearts
Was it the snow or chimney smoke over fields of winter wheat
That drove me forward looking outside for something that I lacked within

chorus:
you had your hand on my heart
But your eyes on my soul
And my heart in your hand
Was blind to it all

They say that hell is hot but I found it cold
Traipsing fields of winter wheat and burning in the snow
You kept the curtains drawn to keep light off your frozen heart
And meanwhile I thought it was romantic in the dark

Chorus

When the winter chill seeped in,  aching to the core
you just stoked the flames but I found i wanted more
In the silence passion slipped away - I was hollow again
To take back my heart I had to let loose the rain

Chorus

You had your hand on my heart
But your eyes on my soul
Will I ever get back
What you stole,  what you stole

(chorus)
You had your hand on my heart
but your eyes on my soul
and my heart in your hand
was blind to it all
