With the stars in my eyes

With the stars in my eyes

A Poem by Zan

With its velvet tipped wings
It whispered to me
And the air flowed like silk
Giving life

I breathed in the light
As I lay in the silence
And fingered the edge
Of my knife

The butterfly landed on my
Thin, parted lips
And the tears flowed down
From my eyes

Laying still; forest floor
Buildings shifted to trees
And the city lamps glowed
Fire flies

Masquerade in my mind
I let my heart soar;
Even as my heart stops
I am forevermore

And the rain fell in thunder
The blood washed away
With the stars in my eyes
How could I have stayed?
