Sneering Clocks

Sneering Clocks

A Poem by Zan

On my wall
one thousand clocks
each one counting
endlessly mocks
tick tock, tick tock
one hundred sneering clocks

All the things I never did
all the chances from which I hid
everything that passed me by
all the times that I cry
tick tock, tick tock
one thousand sneering clocks

My house, my life
they clutter
floor to ceiling,
one wall to other
tick tock, tick tock
counting, mocking, sneering clocks

Dust and cobwebs
hung and strung
across a hundred thousand clocks
an endless reminder
of things that never were
no time how
no chance how

Because time is ticking
darkness creeping
shadows deepening
sunlight dying
no point trying
tick tock, tick tock,
endless counting, sneering clocks
