Fantasy: Chapter 7: Background

A Chapter by Linis Arizen

        Background:

Have you ever noticed how when you’re in a moving vehicle that the foreground goes faster as the background is slower?

I watched as the guardrail dart past the car, and then I switched my view to the trees. I watched as they moved slowly past the car. I sat there watching, I almost fell asleep. But some reckless imbecile almost hit us. I looked over to Cat as she kept her eyes carefully on the road now. Jack was lying in the back with his headset. I sat there and looked out the window, my eyes began to lose focus, then everything started to get blurry.

My eyes shot open, I saw a dark wood ceiling. I sat up and looked around, I was in a relatively large room. I stood slowly, I cautious walked around the room, I slightly stumbled here and there but I caught my balance and continued to walk about the room.

“How are you feeling?”

I jumped as the angelic voice echoed through the room, I turned and saw the girl with Long Orange Hair, she stared at me with her Greenish Orange eyes. I stared back, my heart racing.

“Yea…I’m…fine…I’m sorry about that…”

She walks forward, “Its ok”

I looked around, “Where’s…Craven?”

“He’s talking to the Elder. He asked me to watch you.” She responded as she sat down on the bed I was laying in.

I nod and look around the room again I look at her, “Oh…I’m Leon…and you are?”

She stood up, and looked at me with a very beautiful smile, “I’m Lucia, Lucia Fiben. I’m the Elder’s Granddaughter. You and Craven are the only two non-Faes to walk into the village since the Battle of Cushote. Sadly that fight didn’t end the Racial War…nor…”

“Wait…The Battle of Cushote….you mean that…field?”.

“…Yes…the field that Craven found you by…” she responded with a giggle.

“Uhhh….and that battle didn’t stop…the Racial War?” I asked her with a very confused look.

“Yes…then again I doubt that Fight will never end…but…it didn’t stop the Moritas.

Granted that Heuthel Moritas was killed in the Battle. But the Elder will tell you all about that.”.

I looked at her with more confusion, Heuthel Moritas was…the one on the back of the book. But if that person is dead and the battle then I must not be following the story, “So, when can I see the Elder?”

“Right now if you want too lad.”

I turned towards the front door, I practically smiled as I saw Craven walk into the room.

“Craven! Hey, how was the conversation with the Elder…”

He nodded and smiled, “Good as always. He’s waiting for you, he’s very excited to speak with you.”.

“He...is?” I asked with even more confusion.

“Aye” he nodded with a smile, “The Elder’s place is right down the path outside…”

I rubbed the back of my head and nodded and went outside. I stepped out onto the dirt path, I looked up and saw the green leafs on the tree branches glow as the sunlight hits them. I smiled as I felt the warm air engulf me. I looked around and watched the other villagers walk around, some looked at me with minor hate. Odd, before most of them looked at me with extreme hate. I shrugged and headed down to the Elder’s House, his house, or cabin, as I walked down I noticed that these buildings were not really big enough to be houses, more like cabins, but bigger. Anyways I stared at his wooden log door, I went to knock but the door opened and a young Faein boy walked and nodded at me as he walked past me, I nodded to him and went inside.

“Ahh you must be the young boy that fainted earlier…”

I jumped as I looked to see where the voice came from, this room was so dark.

“I am the Village Elder, Gravei. Craven has told me that he found you around the Cushote Fields, no?”

I looked around the two candles lit the end of the room. There sat a gray Feain male, I can tell he was old by his long white beard, I looked at him and nodded, “Yea…that’s right”

Gravei nodded and smiled, “What is your name young Breic?”

I stood there and looked at him, “I’m Leon…so what was it you wanted to see me for?”

“I wanted to know more of your past…do you remember your past?” his question sent a shiver down my spine

“I…uhh…well..not really..” I couldn’t tell him that I didn’t exist here, right?

He tilted his head, “I see…”

I stood there, unsure of what to say or do.

“What do you know?” He asked as he adjusted in his chair

“Ummm…Lucia…your granddaughter was talking about the...Battle Of Cushote...and Heuthel Moritas…what happened there?” I asked him with extreme haste as I remembered what I read on the back of the book.

“Ahhh that was a battle long ago, happened about fifty years ago. It was when we had drawn arms against the clan of Breic slavers, The Moritas. We fought for our freedom. It was a big battle, Lucians, Syths, Faes, and Norbids all joined together to battle that Breic clan, hoping to stop their desire to try and enslave us, but the son of the Moritas Clan is trying to bring back their clan to seek out revenge. It was that day we thought we all could stand united…but to this very day we still fight amongst ourselves…I was there that day…to witness a more bigger event…”

I tilted my head as I sat down, “Bigger Event?”

Gravei nods, “Yes…fifty years ago we found a young Breic boy in the Cushote fields, and it turns out that he had nothing to recall, he had claimed be from some other world. He went on a journey to find a way back to his world, in his journey he encountered a mage named Lloyd. This mage was trying to gain access to this so called other world. Not even I believed the Breic boy’s story, but it seems that he might have been right, on that day, Lloyd and the boy fought first and something happened, Lloyd pulled out this round object that glowed white and then, they both vanished.”

I sat there even more confused than I was before. Where did they go? Did he return back? What about Lloyd?

I stood up and looked at him, “so…you and Craven think…I’m..”

“Related to that boy? Yes”

But I can’t be related to that boy, I don’t have any brothers. This is getting very weird, well this was already weird, but now its just down right…weirder.

“So, what should I do?” I asked Gravei with a small tone of sadness in my voice.

Gravei shifted in his chair and looked at me, “ Go with Craven to the Village just north of this forest. The Village is in the Sythain Territory, the village is called, Crieo. Talk to their Elder, Mithas. He should be able to help you more, he and the Breic boy talked a lot. And Mithas has a lot of knowledge of the Dark Arts.” He stood up and walked to a room with a cloth over the doorway, “That is all…I’m tired and sore, perhaps we’ll speak again.” He walked inside the room.

I turned and went outside, I looked around. Mithas…and the Dark Arts eh? That must be the stuff that Lloyd was into. Well, better see if Craven is ready to head out to Crieo. I walked back to Lucia’s place and went inside, I saw Craven sitting at a table, he looked at me, “Ahh so he’s back, what did Gravei have to ya laddy?”

I smiled as he stood up, “He told me about the boy from before and told me that I should go see Mithas in Crieo to find out more. He said to go with you so I assume you have business there aswell?”

He smiled and looked at me, “Aye, we should be off quickly. I already got what supplies we might need so we can leave anytime.”

I looked around then nodded, “Alright, we should go now then…”

He nodded and walked toward the door, he walked out. I turned around and saw Lucia, she looked at me and smiled, “So…you leaving now?”

I nodded, “Yea…I want to know whats going on…with me…”

“Ok….here I want you to have this ring…” she walked over to me and put this gold ring in my hand, inside it was a red lining that circled it, the red lining was made of a red gem, probably Ruby, it was a beautiful ring. I took it and put it on each of my fingers, it only fit on one, my index finger. I put it on and looked at her and smiled, “Thanks”

She smiled, “Your welcome, may it bring you good luck, and remind you of….our meeting.”

I smiled and walked toward the door, I went outside, Craven was by the village entrance, I ran up to him and looked at him,

“I’m ready”
