Fantasy: Chapter 1: DreamA Chapter by Linis Arizen Dream: Surrounded by a thick dark fog, I walked aimlessly, stumbling, looking around, hoping to see someone, or something, but saw nothing, I stood there, not afraid, but concerned, am I dreaming? Then, I saw nothing but the dry clay whiteness of my plaster roof, I starred at my roof, listening to the annoying sound of my dreadful alarm clock, every morning it goes off to signify one thing, its time for school. “Curses…stupid thing…” I slammed my hand down on the clock, stopping the cursed noise it spat out. I sat up and looked out my window, it was raining, again, for the third night in a row, over the small hills I can see that the river had raised a large amount, maybe four, six feet. As I looked at the river, I could see the morning fog, I starred at the river, recalling my dream, lost in that dark internal fog. As I sat there, I heard the sound of a soft melody, I then quickly turned and got out of my bed and picked up the source of the soft lovely melody, my cell phone sang the tune and vibrated on the dresser where I put it every night, and every morning, it rang, I answered it with a soft, happy tone. “Hello” “Ello Love” The voice on the other end, so serene, so majestic, so sadistic, like a siren’s, calling to the innocent man. The voice which was only heard from the only thing I look forward to, my girlfriend, partner, mate, my love, Catharine, she preferred to be called Cat, she loves cats, she loves animals in general, except reptiles. I smiled and softly spoke, “Ello, how are you?” “I’m good, and you, how’s your morning progressing? You awake, or just moping around like a zombie?” She liked to make sure my clock did its job, but to me, she was my wake up call, not that dreadful machine people call a clock, I swear, that clock is a spawn of Satan, it has to be. “I’m awake now, just looking at what I should wear today…hey you do Mr. D’s worksheet?” Mr. Diliarino, or Mr. D, or Mr. Devil, was our advanced math teacher, I hate math, but I somehow managed to get into an advanced class. He was a boring, but yet, funny teacher, some days he’ll just ramble on about math, and four squared this and that, but sometimes he would be funny and make the class interesting, which has been happening lately, though no matter what way he’s teaching, he gives out mind wrenching homework assignments. Her voice broke my thoughts “Yes, I did, oh don’t forget to wake up Jack, he needs to make it to school, this time, or he’ll miss the science test, and he can’t afford that” “Oh…yea…hold on” I placed my phone back on the dresser. Jack, my brother, not by blood though. I grew up with him, and now, he’s my roommate, a great person to hang with, though for an eighteen year old, he sure acts like a six year old at times, it can be rather funny. I walked downstairs, through the kitchen and into the basement, into his domain, I walked down and stood at the bottom of the stairs and starred at his sleeping body, it was 6:15 in the morning, and he was still sleeping, I looked around and then bent over and picked up a small rubber ball, I threw it at him, hitting him in the head, he jumped up and looked around, his fists up and ready to swing, he stood there and looked at me. “You dumbass…did you throw that ball at me? Huh?” he picked the ball up, I got ready to duck, but he just stood there, he looked around the room. “Its…Wednesday, right?” I nodded “Yes” “S**t! We have that stupid science test today!” he quickly ran over to his dresser and went through clothes. I started upstairs. “Hurry, Cat will be here soon” I walked back into my room, Jack and me lived in a small house, his brother owns the house and is letting us stay here for free, cool huh? I think so, but we have to pay the bills, which, is tough. We don’t have much to pay though, we don’t have Cable so theres no worry there, we have a nice TV though, we have high-speed internet connection, gas, water, electric and the other basics. Jack makes money by flipping burgers at M.Ds and I make money by working at a local store, its down the street and sells, just about anything, food, candy, toys, games, videos, junk. A junk store called Teddies, yes, Teddies, the owner’s name is Timothy Tedson, and where he got Teddies is beyond me. And sadly Cat pitches in here and there, I tell her to stop but she still does. “He’s up, and flying” I laughed alittle bit and waited for her response. ‘Ok, well, I’ll be there soon, Love Ya” “Ok, Love Ya too” We hung up, I always hate that, every moment I’m not seeing her or not speaking to her I feel, dead. I put my phone back on the dresser and opened a drawer, I looked at the small selection of clothing I had to pick from. I reached in and flipped through shirts, I pulled out a black tank-top, and a black zip up overshirt, the zipper was red, my two favorite colors, black and red. Kids at school call me Goth, and Emo, even a freak, but I’m nothing like that, I just like the colors, I feel, a ease in them, my hairs also matches the color scheme, I have natural black hair, I loved it, so did Cat. I went down a drawer and opened it, I then pulled out a pair of black pants, they use to have chains and stuff on them, but I got rid of them, so now they look like jeans, just with a lot of loops on them, I took off my sweat pants and slipped into my jeans, I buttoned them and grabbed my belt that was hanging off my bed post, I pulled it through the waist’s loop holes and then tightened it, I then turned and face the mirror behind me, I then realized that I forgot to put my tank-top on and tuck it in, I then undid my belt, I put on my tank-top and tucked it in, till it was perfect, I looked at my evil clock, 6:28, she’ll be here soon, I redid my belt and as I looked into the mirror, I saw someone standing there, a man, his face covered in blood, I quickly turned around, no one was there, I looked around and back into the mirror, the man was gone, I grabbed my overshirt and put it on, I broke the zipper awhile ago so it doesn’t zipper shut, but it spreads, it actually looked cool, so I pulled the zipper and stopped it just at my collarbone, there the collar of the shirt stuck up and covered my neck, like I said, it looks cool. I looked around, grabbed my black combat boots, I loved them, their comfy and can just about go through anything, I opened my last drawer and grabbed a pair of clean socks, I put them on and quickly tied my boots, I double knotted them, I heard jack moving around downstairs, I looked at he clock, 6:35, running on time, I finished tying my boots and quickly went downstairs. Oh my, I feel stupid, I’ve told you about everything around me and you don’t even know who I am, my name is Leon Kincad, I’m seventeen years old and I go to Hilltop High School, in a small town called: Hilltop, how it got the name Hilltop is beyond me, its not on a hill, its all flat, but Hilltop is a remote town in the middle of nowhere, in the lovely state of Virginia. Jack and me have been living in this house near the river for about two years, his family disowned him and threw him out, and mine, well, keeled over, well the part that I love and didn’t mind to be with. “Leon! She’s here!” I quickly went to the door, grabbing my book bag, Jack ran through the rain like it was acid, he got in the back of Cat’s car, she drove a Black Mustang, one of the newer old ones, a 2004 one. I quickly ran up to her car and got in the passenger side seat. “Ya know, we have money saved up for a car, so when I turn eighteen, you don’t have to do this every morning” I looked at Cat and smiled Her golden hair, was shoulder length, her crystal blue eyes pierce my soul when she looks at me, her voice, her beauty, she was perfect, plus she was super smart. She smiles but doesn’t take her eyes off the road. “And that’ll be in a few weeks, I know, but until then, I’m taking you buffoons to school” Jack laughed abit and made a buffoon like noise. I simply shook my head and looked out the car door window, watching the hills, then the trees, then more hills go by. I rested my head against the window, everything seemed to have slowed down, and then everything went black. I quickly sat up, I looked around, I was in a field, encased by a thick gray fog, I was sitting next to a tree, it was dead, no leaves, just bent branches, I stood up and looked around. After awhile I stopped walking aimlessly, I looked up and saw a small red moon, in front of it was a smaller gray moon. “Where am I?” I shortly realized that I wasn’t wearing the clothes I had on earlier, instead I had a rough leather like armor on, with dark brown pants and leather boots, and gloves, I had bracers on as well. “Heh…pretty cool…” I stood there, I felt like I was being watched, I looked around, then I saw someone standing in the distance, then I saw something shimmer, I tensed and clenched my fist and stood there, the figure came at me, holding a sword, I tensed, the figure got closer, I could now tell it was a guy, he swung his sword, I was too slow. “Leon! Wake Up, we’re here” I awoke to Cat shaking me awake, I looked around, we were in the school parking lot, Jack was looking over the seat. “Yo, dipshit, I can’t get out if you’re sitting there snoring a song away” I opened the door, and stepped out, it had stopped raining, Jack got out, as did Cat, I looked at the school. “Joy”.
