Your River Beside Me

Your River Beside Me

A Poem by A. A. Zambrana

There was breath in my lungs
as there was breath in your fingertips
your nails against my walls, pushing and pulling

The music from your box sticking to the edges
of my heart-shaped hole

Your blood rushes through for both of my burdens
your hands reaching out just to relieve them

Tomorrow has little to do with today
until we swell in our cages
all swimming and splashing

The air kicks to the surface
and out through my lips, to fly to your eyelids

Your pupils pulsate and rattle behind your lashes
that sweep off and lick at the dust on my face

We cannot see in this hell
this dark, outspread obstruction
that breaks when we pull off our clothes

There is depth in design
when it melts down to nothing
when you open your eyes and don't see it coming

We are tapping our feet to the sound
of hearts beating, they are kicking at the splinters
we have kneaded in the tissue
so we have to keep moving

If you are at the end then I will keep  running
through houses and highways with your river beside me
while it holds all of the pennies I threw down for you
before I'd known I was wishing

I'm only 19, I feel I'm too young to have a Biography. I think the most eloquent and honest biography I could assemble is quite simply interwoven in all of my poetry. Except that none of my poems ment.. more..
