Wood

Wood

A Poem by A. A. Zambrana

We're kicking through
this wooden wall
to get what we deserve

And though our knees
are busting
our feet bleeding
our bones breaking
we keep kicking because
we have bones to spare

This lumber is thick
and our skin is thin
but the wind is still heavy
with the thudding noises
of our heels

Because we deserve
to get to the other side

All we see is the cold,
dark wood
staring back at us

It creaks,
we grunt

We will keep on
until it splinters

We will keep on
until it breaks

Even if it punctures
and meshes with our flesh
until we are more wood
than we are human

We will keep
breaking this wall down

Because we deserve
to get to the other side

This captures what we were feeling on Saturday. Maybe it's not what you intended, but the feeling of struggle is there nonetheless. Brava!

I'm only 19, I feel I'm too young to have a Biography. I think the most eloquent and honest biography I could assemble is quite simply interwoven in all of my poetry. Except that none of my poems ment.. more..
