Passing Notes

Passing Notes

A Poem by Zall
"

A note passed between two students.

Passing Notes
Shh,
The teacher turns around,
I turn to you and write it down,
Slipping it to you,
All the kids know but the teacher doesn’t see,
What’s going on between you and me,
A small little note,
Containing just nine words,
Two boxes,
With two little letters,
You’ll unfold the note and see what it says,
You’ll look back at me with a small smile,
A tap on our shoulders from the kids that surround,
The teacher is turning back around,
You hide the note quickly,
While I await your reply,
Class finally ends and we collect all our things,
You’ll hand me the note,
And I’ll see what it says,
I’ll see my own writing across the top,
And your small little X in my small little box.
I really like you. Do you like me too?
Two boxes at the bottom of the page,
One box says yes,
The other says no,
I look to the bottom with neither a smile,
Nor a frown,
And see your light answer,
And know that I’m sound,
For one box says yes,
And the other says no,
But you marked the box,
With a small little y.
