Remember

Remember

A Poem by Zall
"

The death of another is painful, but there will be light.

"

Remember
You will remember,
As I was here,
With you,
The days seemed too short,
Your breath seemed to quicken,
Your heart seemed to break your ribs,
Butterflies lived in your stomach,
Eyes always bright,
Mouth always a smile,
Head held high,
And your mind was a haze,
Thinking of then.

You will find,
As I am gone,
Away from you,
The days seem too long,
Your breath seems to slow,
Your heart feels of ice,
Butterflies replaced with a sick feeling,
Eyes always dull,
Mouth always a frown,
Head bowed down,
And your mind is a haze,
Thinking of now.

You will see,
As she comes around,
Closer to you,
The days will seem brighter,
Your breath will seem faster,
Your heart’s melting ice,
Butterflies will flutter once more,
Eyes will smile,
Mouth will twitch in the corners,
Head will rise up once more,
And your mind will be a haze,
Thinking of the future.

This isn't bad. This is quite an exquisite poem! Each stanza carries it forward: the past, the present, the future. Each part was captured beautifully, the mood dampening as the persona describes the reaction to the death of the loved one, but then brightening as he looks towards the future. It reminds me that we won't have the ones we love most dearly around us forever, but despite that inevitability, all things happen for a reason and the future will always hold more hidden joys for us to discover. I wish I could favorite this. Such a beautiful poem.
