Blind

Blind

A Poem by Zalinthel

Most of my friends, to my dismay,

Live lives of chaos, confusion and disarray.

They find themselves sinking, from all their sorrow,

Into a perennial darkness, where they want no tomorrow.

Were it so easy, I would tell them again,

As I have said so much before

That the only happiness that can make one sane,

Is within themselves, waiting evermore.

“What is this light” they ask, “that you claim to see?”

I answer with no subterfuge, “Just an inner beauty.”

And they laugh at me, and claim me a fool.

For they have no idea of the endless pool

Of eternal happiness that lies within,

Their very souls, it has always been.

And so I sigh and shake my head,

And wipe away the tears I shed.

For if they are so blind to themselves,

Then they can do so, while I keep to myself.
