A Bitter End to a Friend

A Bitter End to a Friend

A Poem by Zalinthel
"

Betrayal may be forgiven, but is never forgotten.

"

My friend, my kindred spirit,

You hide yourself with careful precision.

But your guise falls short.

And of course you can sense that I see,

And how curious it is, that I feel a bond,

Just like I have countless times with others.

And I’d give all my life,

Just for this time to be real.

My dear sunshine,

Could you share your spark?

For I can sense your thoughts,

Because they’re the same as mine.

And now I am at peace in mind,

As I realize, that what I see,

Isn’t meant for me.

But yet nonetheless,

I take your hand,

And we go off again,

To another land.

And I love this life,

Even without you here.

You can find another friend,

If you name the one you forget.

And you can show me your scars,

And all your enemies.

You can lay them all before me,

And walk away, but I will make you stay,

But then I see,

With shocking clarity,

 That you cheated me,

And lied to my face!

And so, I say,

My black sunshine,

You can keep your light!

And I loathe your thoughts,

For they’re the same as mine.

And so you lost this friend,

Such a bitter end!

And I still don’t know why,

But I just laugh and smile.

~ so true... so very true... i think you brought out the impact of betrayal by the way you narrated this interaction... and i loved the last two lines a lot... it took me a long time to understand that once we understand the anatomy of betrayal, we also discover that the one who betrays is someone who is terribly mistaken about a lot of things... even i find those who've betrayed me in the past amusing... truly amusing...
