The Veneer

The Veneer

A Poem by Zahin

What’s the deal, how will we fix this?

Maybe another chance would destroy me again

Maybe another chance would stitch these wounds

But we know another lie might kill the veneer

That you’ve made for someone in honor of love

Can you hear yourself when you speak?

It’s like you can’t even see where you’re going

These nights they stay put just for me

Only these stars are allowed to smile at me

When I let the water out of my eyes
