An ExplinationA Chapter by RekainGrem's new friends explain what's going on and some history is gone over. We
drove on for hours down the deserted roads.
No one has lived outside any of the giant gates that surrounded the
cities because the wildlife had grown larger and more dangerous due to the
increase of pollution in the air. Not
only that but a band of renegade scientists tried to do experiments with wolves
and nanomites to create a cybernetic defense unit that was faster, more agile,
and smarter than any other animal. When the Senate
figured out about them they tried to take them by force but every attempt was
met with the destruction of more and more Wardens. Eventually they just bombed the place. It killed the scientists and their equipment,
but the cyber wolves, or Cryber wolves as we called them due to their high
pitch hunting cry, escaped and were somehow able to reproduce passing on the
nanos. There was a shut down code for
them but that information was lost with the scientists. It made me think of
the other experiments people did on other people. Almost all failed with horrible effects on
the subject, including mine. I had made
a test on how to change ones physical form on command and change back. I did many tests and I had the answer, but
the Wardens came and arrested me for Unlawful
treatment and unscheduled testing. I
was sentenced to life in prison unless I told them where my final mixture was
hidden. I refused and was sent to the near impenetrable prison in the middle
of the city where I… “We’re
here,” Drey said, interrupting my thoughts.
I looked out the front window and saw the huge wall that signified
safety. Funny that the Senate had them
built to protect them where now one was being used to protect their enemies. “Be
respectful when you meet him,” Drey told me, “I’d hate to have to drag your
body to the morgue right after I saved you.” “I’ll
keep that in mind,” I replied, still wondering if this Chief character was a
nice guy or not. The
gates opened and twenty people armed and ready came out and aimed at the
car. One stepped up to the driver’s door
and tapped on the glass. The driver
rolled down her window and handed the guy some kind of id. He then handed it back and walked back
through the gate signaling us to follow. I
looked at Drey who just shrugged and said, “Standard procedure.” We
continued down the roads and I couldn’t help but notice that many of the people
looked hungry and poor. The driver saw me watching and said, “Thanks to the
Senate and their wardens destroying our outside food supply and all supply routes
we’ve had trouble feeding everybody.
We’ve had to take every tree out of the parks just so we could plant
enough to feed them and even then we barely have enough.” I
just kept looking at them and feeling ashamed.
That feeling quickly passed when we stopped and they began getting out
of the car. I got out and saw a mansion
of sorts with a wall of its own and guards every five feet along it. “You
guys don’t play around when it comes to defense,” I said. “Of
course not,” the big guy said, his accent deep and rough, “This is not only our
center of command but also the final defense for our city, and if you look
close enough you can that there are sniper nests in the upper levels.” I looked to where he pointed but I could only
see glass and a dark room. I was
still hoping this chief guy was a nice one. © 2012 Rekain |
