A Flame

A Flame

A Poem by Zachary Dary

There's a light.
A flickering little light.
A flame, one might think.
Once proud and strong,
Now weak and small.
Enemy to the winds of change,
Constant, unrelenting, and cold.
Leaving the light bare and exposed.
One more gust and it is gone.
No more winds, no more flame.
Waiting. Waiting for the last gust.
Fearing it. Secretly begging for it.
Letting that light go out.
Wanting it to go out.
Hands, a shield from the winds.
The flame grows stronger.
With my last breath,
I blow it out.

This is quite an original piece, and the title is perfect for it! I really liked the personification you used in the line, :Waiting for the last gust. Fearing it. Secretly begging for it" You are a good writer sir!
