My Heart for You

My Heart for You

A Poem by Zachary Dary

This chest of mine is aching.
It is twisting in agony.
The heart that once kept me whole,
It is trying to burst out.
I want to hold it in.
To lock it in a box and leave it be.
But I can't get a good hold on it.
It tries to stretch North for you.
It runs blindly in your direction.
My fingers can't grasp it as it runs.
It is slippery with the tears flowing out of it's eyes.
The tears it cries are the ones I refuse to show.
The ones that accompany the loneliness.
I wish for your heart to get here.
Only your presence will make him stop.
When he lays his beaming orbs upon you,
And breaths in meaningless air.
He will finally know he is yours and you are his.
I have no control over him.
He is a being of optimism.
I, however, am a spectre of pessimism.
A phantom of the happy shell of my heart.
But when you place your hand in mine,
Wrap me tight in your loving embrace,
Gently touch your lips to mine,
And make my soul complete,
The spectre shall once again be renewed in life.
I shall breathe easy.
I will be yours and yours alone.
I love you and forever will.
