Escape Route

Escape Route

A Poem by Zakari Schmidt
"

No I in DNA

"
Conceived in my eyes
and ready to grow
I see you all the time,
you should probably go

Paths that stay far from the road
take me there and lead you home
Instead of neon signs to read,
instead of pavement and a street
I couldn't always trust my feet
But now I can

Still try to understand
Still trying to explain
When life becomes a maze
your ears twitch like a mouse
I don't look like a rat
but that is how I felt
A subtle difference of the 2
The difference between
me and you,
is just the same

No I in DNA

What else is in my blood
Impersonate someone
across a century
Leaves on our family tree,
brittle and turning brown
They started reaching down
for me

"When life becomes a maze
do you become the mouse?
May not look like a rat
but that is how I felt.
A subtle difference of the 2. "

We can't live a good life without sometimes feeling like we are rats, running a maze or being experimented on. There are many escape routes out of the dark, but we must put in the effort and dedication in order to seek it out. DNA is just what we're made of in genes, but it's up to us to figure out, realize and present what we are made of on the true inside...so the world can see that we are capable of so much more than they may think!

Three card Monty, but in words. Nice job, love how you shift the words and flow in an ultimate theory, nice work.

Adoration appreciation lol
Great combinations of thoughts. You open the door to questions and possibilities. Life seem to be a maze with no escape. I enjoyed the complete poem. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry.

I feel the "theme" here is how we are all under the "plan" ruled by the DNA, and how the "I" we believe ourselves to be is just one manifestation of a long, long wave of generations...interesting..
